Packers’ Free Agency Week One Wrap Up
We’ve got a lot to talk about in terms of free agency when it comes to the Green Bay Packers. That’s a nice change for once.
The Packers have made some moves!
They’ve also let a number of guys walk and, also for a change, the Packers’ free agents have been in demand.
We’re going to run down all of them.
The big moves were re-signing Nick Perry and bringing in tight ends Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks.
With Perry — a move we believe the Packers had to make — the question is did they overpay? Ultimately, the answer to that question will come down to health.
Perry may not repeat his 2016 performance in terms of sacks, but he’s still the team’s best run defender. That’s what no one is talking about.
The surprise move — Bennett — is one that none of us saw coming. We’ll tell you what Bennett brings to the team and why he’s an improvement over Jared Cook.
Then there’s Lance Kendricks, a signing we love for a couple reasons.
Is it curtains for Richard Rodgers? It certainly may be.
Shawn has a theory that it might be curtains for someone else that no one has considered — Randall Cobb.
The tight end moves signal a move away from Cobb and, with his contract, how much longer will he be around?
But what about that pesky No. 1 cornerback spot? The Packers still haven’t addressed that spot and we don’t know if they will.
That said, if they do, there are still options and we’ve got a rundown of what those options are. The Packers could trade No. 29 and get the guy they need.
Let’s get that No. 1 cornerback!
