The Packers head into week 10 on a 5-game losing skid, which is the first time since Aaron Rodgers became a starter back in 2008. The Cowboys enter at 6-2 and will be a tough test for the Packers to avoid dropping to 3-7.
Green Bays has the edge overall in the series against Dallas, winning 20 of the 37 previous games. Aaron Rodgers is 7-2 overall against the Cowboys, while Dak Prescott has one win in three tries against the Packers. A win against Dallas would show a move in the positive direction heading into the final stretch of the season.
Defensively for the Cowboys in their last game, Donovan Wilson was all over the field, recording eight tackles, while arguably the best defensive player in the like Micah Parsons recorded four. They held Justin Fields to 151 yards passing and sacked him four times, but allowed Khalil Herbert to average over six yards per carry on 16 attempts. Dallas features a quick secondary and a strong pass rush, which will put pressure on Rodgers and the rest of the offense to take care of the football. The Packers are near the bottom in turnover differential at –5.
Green Bay comes in struggling offensively. They failed to get much going against the Lions, who are giving up the most points in the league. The Packers scored just one touchdown on a pass from Rodgers to Allen Lazard, who hauled in four for 87 yards. The running game was putrid, as AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones combined for only 59 yards on 20 carries. Jones left with an ankle injury. Rodgers threw for 283 yards but was intercepted three times, including twice in the end zone. He must have a clean game for the Packers to have a shot this week.
For the Cowboys offensively, they are coming off a 49-point explosion. Prescott threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with CeeDee Lamb five times for 77 yards and a score. Tony Pollard is showing that he’s the best back in Dallas, running for 131 yards on 14 carries. The Packers need to tighten their run defense against Dallas.
The Packers enter the contest without linebacker Rashan Gary, who is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. He was having a Pro Bowl caliber season with six sacks. Eric Stokes was also hurt and is likely to miss the remainder of the season with a knee and ankle injury. On a positive, the defense gave up just 15 point and held Jared Goff to 137 yards on 14-of-26 passing. The Lions were held to 117 yards rushing, 17 below their season average.
The Packers have a tough task this week and are 4.5-point home underdogs. With the struggles on offense and a slew of injuries, the Packers have an uphill climb to end their 5-game skid. Kickoff is at 4:25 PM Eastern and the game will be televised on FOX.
