In a rare occurrence, Aaron Rodgers left Sunday night’s game against the Eagles in the second half with a rib injury. Enter Jordan Love, who last appeared in a game on October 16 when he completed two of four passes for eight yards. Love, in his second season out of Utah State, completed 36-of-62 for 411 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions as a rookie.
Love had an opportunity to bring the Packers back from a deficit with 11 minutes left in the game. While that was not to be the case, Love showed poise and played well, completing 6-of-9 for 113 yards and a touchdown. Prior to entering, Rodgers completed 11-of-16 for 140 yards and two touchdowns, but the Eagles picked him off twice in the first half. That increased his interception total to nine, the highest since 2010.
Although the Eagles were playing a soft coverage protecting a 14-point lead, Love made all the right throws and quickly got the Packers on the board with a 63-yard catch and run to Christian Watson. He also got the Packers to within seven following a drive that led to a field goal. Love’s seven-yard pass to Allen Lazard on third-and-five was their first third-down conversion of the game.

As for Rodgers, he eliminated any thought of not playing again the rest of the season. A scan on his ribs will determine the extent of the injury, but coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Rodgers will be under center this week if he can play. Should the Packers be mathematically eliminated, it’s conceivable that Love will see significant playing time down the stretch.
Make no mistake about it, the Packers are still Rodgers’ team to lead when healthy, despite turning 39 years old on December 2. Also make no mistake that Jordan Love is waiting in the wings and is poised to take over down the road. The Packers are confident at the quarterback position now and for the future.

It’s okay to love Aaron Rodgers & still want Jordan Love to succeed.
