The Green Bay Packers placed injured running back Eddie Lacy on injured reserve on Thursday. They had to make a move in order to activate running back Don Jackson from the practice squad, something we’ve been hearing would happen all week long.
Lacy will reportedly have surgery on his injured ankle.
#Packers RB Eddie Lacy will have surgery on his left ankle and be put on injured reserve I'm told.

Thus, the complete and utter failure of the men who run the Green Bay Packers is now officially complete in this instance.
None of this would have been necessary if general manager Ted Thompson had stocked his roster with enough capable running backs. Instead, he choose to go with just two. When both James Starks and Lacy pulled up with injuries prior to the Dallas game, Thompson seemingly had one choice — go get another running back.
He again refused to do so.
That forced coach Mike McCarthy to run Lacy on an injured ankle.
Certainly, McCarthy’s options weren’t great. He was left with fullback Aaron Ripkowski and two receivers — Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb — to use in the backfield if Lacy didn’t play. Still, those options are better than ruining the long-term health of your No. 1 back for a single game.
But that’s what McCarthy chose to do.
Lacy’s injury only got worse after playing against Dallas, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. It was an ANKLE INJURY for Christ sake!
So now Lacy — the Packers’ only effective offensive weapon this season — will be out at least eight weeks. The Packers could use their designation to return on Lacy after eight weeks. However, if they do that, it means they can’t use it on cornerback Sam Shields, who they also put on IR this week.
Teams can only recall one player from IR per season.
If you think the Packers’ offense is going to show any signs of improvement with Don Jackson, Knile Davis or even James Starks running the ball, you are in for a rude awakening.
We’ve seen some idiotic and inept moves from this regime before, but this one has to take the cake since it was totally preventable.
FAIL! FAIL! FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!
