We told you how pissed off some fans at the Hall of Fame game were about the cancellation of said game a couple weeks back. They were right to be pissed because no one involved bothered to tell them the game was cancelled until shortly before kickoff was set to take place. We viewed this as an obvious money grab (concessions, merch, etc.) by an entity that only gives a shit about exactly that. Well, now the league wants to make it up to those fans.
Why do they want to make it up to those fans?
Only because they were hit with a class-action lawsuit. Why else would the NFL be spurred to act?
So here’s the current offer to ticket holders.
… ticket holders will receive the face value of their tickets along with “all processing, shipping and handling fees, pre-paid parking purchased through the Hall of Fame, pre-sale reservation fees, and one night of hotel accommodations to eligible fans, subject to appropriate review, approval, and verification.”
The Hall of Fame also is offering four admission tickets to the museum to be used once any time during the next five years; a commemorative photo of the Hall of Fame Class of 2016 along with their fellow Hall of Fame members taken on the front steps of the museum; a copy of the 2016-17 Pro Football Hall of Fame Yearbook; the right, before the general public, to purchase a ticket for a future Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony or Pro Football Hall of Fame Game for one year in any of the next five years; and a 30-percent discount for the purchase of any merchandise from the museum’s online store.
That seems like an alright deal. However, it’s obviously a ploy to get people to vacate the class action.
The offer wasn’t made to an attorney. It was made directly to the fans and if they accept it, they agree to sacrifice any claims in the lawsuit.
Most of that stuff being offered doesn’t cost the NFL anything. Michael Avenatti, the attorney spearheading the class action, had requested $450 per ticket holder earlier this week.
Personally, I’d rather have the cash than a bunch of Hall of Fame merch.
