Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris continues to rehabilitate his surgically repaired knee and in this week’s video installment, produced by the National Football Post, we learn two things.
First, Harris, who’s 35, says he’s attempting to come back because he wants to fulfill the final two years of his contract, or, as he states, “can’t leave the money on the table.”
So, there’s that. It will be interesting to see if the Packers feel the same way about Harris playing two more seasons. A lot will depend on how he looks upon his return and a lot will depend on this season’s results. If Harris shows his age in 2010, there’s a good chance the Packers will release him in 2011, a season in which he’ll turn 37. The cold fact is, unless your name is Darrell Green, you don’t play cornerback in the NFL past 35.
Of course, if anyone we know can play until he’s 37, it’s Al Harris, which brings me to the second thing. Former Packers safety Marquand Manuel says Harris is the hardest-working, most competitive player he knows.
So competitive, in fact, that Harris will compete to see who can fall asleep first. Now that’s pretty fucking competitive.
Anyway, watch the video for yourself.
