The Green Bay Packers announced Ted Thompson’s new role with the organization Tuesday morning — senior advisor to football operations.
The announcement went on with team president Mark Murphy saying nice things about Thompson and Thompson saying nice things about the Packers.
It’s a similar role to what Ron Wolf had at the end of his career. However, there appears to be one big difference. Wolf was all there and Thompson seems to be deteriorating mentally. The signs have come up repeatedly during the season.
They started with Thompson’s nonsensical press conference at the combine.
Make no mistake, this move is being made so Murphy doesn’t have to fire Thompson. He can just stash him away somewhere in the organization for a couple years until his contract runs out. It’s also a way of saying, hey, thanks for Aaron Rodgers and that Super Bowl.
