Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers enter the 2026 NFL season with one of the league’s most intriguing rosters, but one NFL expert believes the team’s biggest X-factor will determine whether it can become a legitimate Super Bowl contender. While Green Bay features talent across the lineup, continued improvement from its young offensive core could ultimately define the season.

The evaluation highlighted the Packers’ offense as the key variable separating the team from the NFC’s elite. Green Bay has assembled an impressive collection of young playmakers, but consistency remains the final hurdle. If the offense can eliminate costly mistakes and produce at a higher level in critical situations, the team could take a significant step forward in one of the NFL’s toughest conferences.

Love remains at the center of those expectations. After showing steady growth as the franchise quarterback, he now enters another season with greater familiarity in the offensive system and an experienced supporting cast. His continued development will influence every aspect of the offense, from the passing game to the effectiveness of the running attack and the team’s overall efficiency in high-pressure moments.

The Packers also possess one of the NFL’s youngest and most athletic groups of skill-position players. Wide receivers, tight ends and running backs have all demonstrated flashes of explosive potential, but turning that talent into week-to-week production will be essential. Better execution, stronger chemistry and improved decision-making could transform an already promising offense into one of the league’s most dangerous units.

Green Bay’s ruin-pass ratio was recently highlighted ahead of the new season. This is detailed more in an analysis by Seth Walder for ESPN.

X factor for 2026: Their run-pass ratio. Despite designing one of the league’s most efficient passing games, coach Matt LaFleur’s weakness has been leaning too heavily on running the ball. In 2025, the Packers recorded 0.21 EPA per play on designed pass plays (second best) and minus-0.02 EPA per designed run (16th). Despite that huge gap in efficiency, the Packers ranked 26th in pass rate over expected, per Next Gen Stats. If Green Bay puts the ball in quarterback Jordan Love’s hands more often, it should win more games.

On the defensive side, Green Bay has built a roster capable of complementing the offense with timely stops and disruptive playmaking. However, the organization’s ceiling largely depends on whether the offense can consistently capitalize on scoring opportunities and sustain drives against quality opponents. Achieving that balance would strengthen the Packers’ chances of competing deep into the postseason.

Every playoff contender enters a season with one defining variable that shapes its championship hopes. For Green Bay, the X-factor is whether its young offensive nucleus can fulfill its immense potential, and if that group continues progressing together, the franchise could emerge as one of the NFC’s most complete and dangerous teams throughout the 2026 campaign.
