Matthew Golden and the Green Bay Packers are generating growing optimism as the 2026 season approaches. The young wide receiver’s development has become a focal point within the team’s passing attack.

Golden has drawn strong praise from passing game coordinator Jason Vrable, who believes the receiver is poised to take a significant step forward in his second season. The evaluation centers on his mental growth, which has begun to unlock his physical ability.

Golden spent the offseason studying his own performance, identifying areas where hesitation limited his effectiveness. That self-assessment has led to a sharper understanding of the offense, allowing him to play with greater confidence and speed.

The Packers have long valued receivers who combine technical precision with natural talent, and Golden appears to be aligning with that standard. His hand-eye coordination and ability to secure the football have never been in question, but his command of the playbook is now catching up.

Vrable recently shared his thoughts about Golden ahead of the 2026 NFL season. This can be seen in an article posted on the team’s official website.

When he came back, he said, ‘I watched more tape on myself,’ just like guys around the league in our offense, and he’s like, ‘My biggest jump, I already know, is just the mental part.’ The details and like, how they matter, why they matter, and being able to play fast. Because he’s like, ‘I was watching the tape, I just wasn’t playing as fast as I wanted, and I could see it on tape, just a little bit of hesitation at times.’

He’s always been able to catch the ball and run through the football, and that’s what great receivers do. His hand-eye coordination, I’d say, is one of the better ones I’ve been around. So he can do that, but now the mental part, he’s starting to become a lot more confident. And I can feel it, you know? But I’ve always said, ‘If you don’t know the playbook, guys, inside and out, and every adjustment and every route conversion and when the quarterback’s going to throw it,’ I think it’s hard to play fast all the time, because there’s always a little bit of doubt. And just doing the reps over and over again and competing the way he does, we’re all fired up about him.

As Golden becomes more comfortable with route adjustments and timing, his role in the offense is expected to expand. Increased familiarity with the system allows him to react instinctively, reducing doubt and improving overall execution.

The progress shown this offseason has created a sense of anticipation within the organization. If Golden continues on this trajectory, he could emerge as a key contributor in Green Bay’s passing game and play a meaningful role in the team’s success during the 2026 season.
