Josh Jacobs and the Green Bay Packers are generating renewed confidence as the 2026 season approaches. After battling through challenges a year ago, the veteran running back appears poised to return to form.

Jacobs has drawn strong praise from running backs coach Ben Sirmans, who sees little drop-off in the veteran’s ability. The assessment reflects a belief that Jacobs remains a central figure in the offense despite the physical toll he endured last season.

The NFL star played through injuries in 2025, showing resilience while maintaining his role in the backfield. That stretch tested both his durability and consistency, but it also reinforced his reputation as a dependable presence when the team needed stability.

The offseason has provided an opportunity for recovery and refinement, and early impressions suggest Jacobs has responded well. His conditioning, explosiveness and ability to execute at full speed during drills have stood out as indicators that he is returning to peak form.

Sirmans recently shared his thoughts about Jacobs ahead of the upcoming NFL season. This can be seen in an article posted on the team’s official website.

Josh is a warrior. Obviously we all know, he played in a lot of pain last year. Fighting through it. But he looks about the same, to be honest with you. Because he takes care of his body, he understands his body, and what he needs to do. He’s still first in line. He’s still going through the drills full speed, making explosive cuts, so he still looks the same. He’s going to have the same ability that he did the first year, where he was obviously a Pro Bowl-caliber player. That’s my expectations of him. He still looks as effective as he did when he first got here.

Green Bay continues to rely on Jacobs as a foundational piece of its offensive identity. His combination of power and vision allows the Packers to establish balance, creating opportunities both in the running game and through play-action situations.

Expectations for Jacobs remain high as the team prepares for the upcoming campaign. If his current trajectory holds, he could once again deliver the level of production that made him one of the league’s most effective running backs.
