The Green Bay Packers have bought in on Jordan Love, as evidenced by the fact that they signed him to a four-year, $220 million contract extension in 2024. Love knew at the time of his signing that he had big shoes to fill, considering that he is the successor of future Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
While he’s not yet on the level of Rodgers, he’s shown the Packers glimpses of being the team’s long-term answer under center. To help Love become a true franchise quarterback, Green Bay got him some new weapons in the offseason, including wide receiver Matthew Golden, who was taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Green Bay Packers rookie WR looking forward to earning Love’s trust

Golden comes with a lot of confidence in his abilities, but he’s also aware and humble enough to realize that his place for now with the Packers and that he first needs to earn the trust and develop chemistry with Love before he can become an impactful player for Green Bay.
“It’s going to be what it’s supposed to be, you know, over time, you got to build, you got to gain his trust,” Golden said, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. “So, for me, it’s just going out there, you just put my best foot forward each and every day, and just allowing him to know that I’m going to be right where I need to be. So, I just feel like for me it’s going to happen over time.”
It remains to be seen whether the Packers were right to invest a first-round pick on Golden, but they can already feel good about him, thanks to what he’s shown the team on and off the field, thus far, in the offseason.
During the 2024 college football season with the Texas Longhorns, Golden amassed 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions through 16 games.
