If the Green Bay Packers are aiming to help quarterback Jordan Love early in the NFL Draft, conventional wisdom suggests taking a wide receiver early might be the most likely tact general manager Brian Gutekunst takes. However, that might not be the direction Green Bay takes later this month.
One year after taking Jordan Morgan, offensive tackle remains among the Packers’ most pressing needs, especially after watching the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl on the back of a dominant offensive and defensive line.
According to Bleacher Report, offensive tackle isn’t just a weakness for the Packers but it could be the position Gutekunst targets with the No. 23 overall selection.
“Both Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom are set for new deals starting in 2026,” Alex Ballentine writes for B/R. “The Packers could have a tough decision on their hands. Spotrac estimates a $17.8 million annual average salary for Walker and $21.7 million for Tom.
“It would be a very Packers move to shock everyone and take another offensive linemen in the first round. Josh Conerly Jr. could be the guy if they go that route. He’s a natural left tackle with the tools to be an immediate starter.”
Given that this is a deep offensive tackle class, even beyond LSU’s Will Campbell and Armand Membou at the top of the board, if Gutekunst is looking to follow Philadelphia’s blueprint while fortifying the line in front of Love and looking to add a weapon later, offensive line could absolutely be in play for the Packers.
Green Bay has hosted Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons for a top-30 pre-draft visit in recent days, which could telegraph an interest in bolstering the position early on, even after investing premium draft capital in a tackle last spring.
