The Green Bay Packers have had a quiet offseason compared to the last two.
The Packers’ situation with Aaron Rodgers was the talk of the NFL in the spring of 2023. Green Bay made a surprise in free agency when they added running back Josh Jacobs. The Packers also agreed to a contract extension with Jordan Love after one season as the full-time starter.
This year, the more notable moves they made in free agency were signing offensive guard Aaron Banks and wide receiver Mecole Hardman.
Are the Green Bay Packers going to make a trade?
During the league annual meeting on Monday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst suggested to reporters that the team would look to make a trade this offseason. In answer regarding Jaire Alexander’s future with the Packers, Gutekunst said he didn’t want to give up the star cornerback for peanuts.
“We invested a lot in Jaire and want to make sure, if he’s not gonna be on our football team helping us win games, that we get something back for that investment,” Gutekunst said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “So we’ll see where it goes, but again, working with (Thornton) weekly and trying to figure out what’s best for both Jaire and the Packers.”
Gutekunst isn’t sure when Green Bay will make its decision on Alexander for 2025 and might be delayed until after April’s draft.

Gutekunst is open to bringing back Alexander for the upcoming season.
“It could be a possibility, absolutely,” Gutekunst said. “But again, I think we’re in the middle of that right now.”
Gutekunst doesn’t have another option but to complete a trade with another team to get something in return for Alexander, a two-time All-Pro. The Packers would not receive a compensatory draft pick for releasing Alexander.
Trading or releasing Alexander would give Green Bay approximately $6.9 million in camp space. But Gutekunst appears to want more than that.
Gutekunst might not like the value other teams want to give in return for Alexander. Unfortunately, the injury history takes away much of the value any team would trade for a talented cornerback.
