Former Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan has been making the rounds of the NFC North over the last couple of seasons. After playing his final year with the Packers in 2022, he spent the 2023 campaign with the Chicago Bears. In 2024, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but did not end up playing in a game with them.
Fans used to love Tonyan. During his time with Green Bay, he was a key weapon for Aaron Rodgers within the offense.
Heading into the NFL offseason, Tonyan was an intriguing sleeper option at the tight end position. He isn’t a big name, but he is more than capable of making an impact on the field.
Now, he has landed a new opportunity with a top-tier Super Bowl contender.

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed Tonyan in free agency.
During the 2023 season with the Bears, the last games that he played to this point, Tonyan ended up playing in 17 games. He caught just 11 passes for 112 yards.
His best season came back in 2020 with the Packers when he racked up 52 receptions for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns. He backed that up with a great year in 2022 as well, catching 53 passes for 470 yards and two scores.
At 30 years old, Tonyan has a massive chance to resurrect his NFL career. Playing with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes is all that any tight end could ask for and playing behind Travis Kelce will give him some opportunities to give the veteran star a breather from time to time.
If Tonyan can stay healthy and play to his full ability, he’s going to have a good years. Kansas City may very well have gotten a steal with this move.
