Aaron Rodgers Still In Play For Minnesota Vikings, Per GM

The Green Bay Packers might have to face Aaron Rodgers twice this season yet.

Reports surfaced last week that the Minnesota Vikings were out on the sweepstakes to sign the free agent quarterback.

Earlier this week, the New York Giants signed Russell Wilson. The Giants, Vikings, and Pittsburgh Steelers were the serious contenders for Rodgers at the start of free agency. It appeared the Steelers were the only viable option for the four-time NFL MVP when Wilson inked his name with New York.

However, Vikings general manager Kewsi Adofo-Mensah invited speculation on the Vikings and Rodgers again when he refused to shut the door on a possible deal this offseason. Regardless of whether the Vikings sign Rodgers, Adofo-Mensah likes what he has in quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Brett Rypien.

“I think we got to a place where we just said everybody was transparent, but right now we feel good about where we’re going, and that’s really how it ended. You know, it’s ultimately up to him (Rodgers),” Adofo-Mensah said via video from Fox 9. “It’s hard to talk about a player who’s not under contract for our team and who isn’t a member of this team.

“It’s ultimately up to him what he decides to do with his future. But that’s kind of where we left it. And I know Kevin and him have a great relationship still. They’ll still have a relationship, they’ll keep talking. But right now, I’m focused on the two players that are in our room right now and my personnel process for going forward.”

The situation with Rodgers and the Vikings is fluid

In response to a follow-up question, the four-year GM suggested that the situation with the Vikings and Rodgers is fluid.

“I think that I said that, given where we are scenario-wise, we didn’t think it was the right move at this time,” Adofo-Mensah said of signing Rodgers. “It is also his decision to whether he signs with another team, not that that’s ultimately up to another player. For me to sit here and say that, you know, anything’s 100% forever, that’s just not the job, right?

“We’re responding to scenarios and different information as it comes so, obviously, things can change. But right now, we’re really happy with our room, and we’re gonna look to upgrade it in different ways, but for now, we’re really excited.”

Per the GM’s mouth, Rodgers is still a potential signing for Minnesota.
