Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a major decision to make.
Rodgers, 41, was released by the New York Jets last month, making him free to sign with any team, but whether he even wants to continue playing remains a bit of an open question.
Following two colossally disappointing seasons with the New York Jets, Rodgers is once again available, but there could be a couple of major factors weighing on his decision whether to continue his career.
As part of ESPN’s profile of the top upcoming free agents, the outlet questions if Rodgers is up for signing with a team that isn’t close to contending is worth it for him.
“The teams likely to be interested in Rodgers — Giants, Raiders and Titans — aren’t likely to be 2025 contenders,” the ESPN staff writes. “He has to decide if continuing his career for a noncontender is worth it. And how would he react if he signed with one of those teams and it drafted a first-round quarterback the way Atlanta did last year after signing Kirk Cousins?”
It would be a pretty massive indignity for Rodgers’ ego to sign with a team such as the Titans or Giants at the top of the NFL Draft board only to watch his new team select his successor, in a way that mirrors how the Green Bay Packers chose him to eventually replace Brett Favre.
Only this time, Rodgers is far close to the end of the line than Favre was, back in 2005.
