Micah Parsons held nothing back after yesterday’s Cowboys loss to the Eagles — a sad performance only topped by the New York Packers loss to the Cardinals under coach Rodgers.
Parsons expressed his frustration with McCarthy’s leadership, or lack thereof:
“Mike can leave and go wherever he wants. Guys I kind of feel bad for (are) guys like Zack Martin & guys who might be on their last year or on their way out.”
Those are very strong words for a leading player like Parsons. Now, I’m not saying Parsons is wrong. McCarthy’s clock management skills are questionable at best, and his play-calling can be predictable. But it’s still pretty bold for a player to publicly criticize his coach like that.
This whole situation reminds me of McCarthy’s last few years in Green Bay. Remember the growing tension with Aaron Rodgers? The whispers of a stale offensive scheme?
It seems like McCarthy hasn’t changed much since his time with the Packers. After a lot of speculation last season around his firing, McCarthy was kept around in the end. However, he is a dead man walking at this point. Lose your players, lose your job.
Unfortunately, the Dallas Cowboys’ biggest threat will remain: Owner Jerry Jones. He has a habit of getting in the way, to say the least.
My Thoughts
Mike “Sir, the Buffet is Closing Soon. We Mean It This Time.” McCarthy is not a strong enough of a personality to go up against the likes of Aaron Rodgers or Jerry Jones. He just isn’t. Hell, even clocks intimidate him.
People like him are not able to set boundaries with his more strong-willed cohorts so, unless he plans to coach high school football, I do not see him doing well ever again in this modern rapid-fire news cycle NFL with so many personalities competing for attention and podcast subscribers.
Sorry, Mike. Buffet’s closed.
