Do not adjust your television sets, folks. This is really happening.
According to Adam Schefter, the Packers are going to to sign free agent safety Xavier McKinney. This comes during a flurry of roster moves recently, including plans to release RB Aaron Jones into free agency.
Loving this decision, for sure. Rumors were circulating that the Eagles were also interested in McKinney, but Gutey yoinked his ass right on up.
A lot of tough decisions being made today and a lot of voodoo paperwork to help max out the impact on the Packers’ salary cap space.
Heart broken over the Jones departure, but we gotta few all these moves together and not miss the forest for the trees.
Another angle to consider is that the Packers defensive back coach, Ryan Downard, has worked with Xavier before when they were with Alabama (thanks to Josh Makovitch on FB for bringing that to my attention).
“Gutey yoinked his ass right up?” Sounds painful. Gutekunst has never been afraid to whip out the old debit card when it came to free agency and swing for the fences. If he’s got money, he’ll spend it. I wonder how much influence Jeff Hafley had the Xavier McKinny signing.
I hate to see Aaron Jones go. But he’s 29, on the small side, and always struggled to stay healthy. Josh Jacobs is an absolute beast. A power back and only 26. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. A true three down back. Packers offense will be an absolute nightmare to defend. Love with all those WR’s and TE’s and now a featured RB. This offense is gonna be fun!
Packers have a lot of draft capital and big $$$$ invested in this defense. Would it be asking too much for it to finally be a top ten defense?
