The Detroit Lions have to be favored. They won the division last year but it won’t be easy. The Packers are set up for better long term success. At this stage we know what Jared Goff is. He’s a capable if unspectacular QB. Similar to Kirk Cousins. He’ll win some games and disappear in others. Not the kind of QB that can carry his team when nothing else is working.
Both slot WR St Brown and TE LaPorta are studs. But so are Luke Musgrave and Jayden Reed. The Lions don’t have a second TE that comes close to Tucker Kraft. While Christian Watson is a better WR than Jameson Williams. Actually so is Romeo Doubs. All three coming from the same draft class with Willams going 12th overall. And let’s not forget Tay Wicks. That’s a lot of weapons to have to cover for opposing defenses.
There’s no question the Lions have the better run game with Gibbs. But how long can he stay healthy? Likewise the OL is solid. If Jeff Hafley can dial up pressure, and he’ll have the horses to do so with Gary, Van Ness, and Smith. Jared Goff becomes very average. The Lions don’t have a corner like Jaire Alexander who can literally shut down an opponent’s best WR.
The most impressive part of Jordan Love’s final ten game resurgence was his vision. With the pocket collapsing around him, he always kept his eyes down field looking to make a play. He would move around in the pocket to buy time but didn’t get “happy feet” and take off running. The best is yet to come with Love. The thought of Jordan Love shredding the Lions defense on Thanksgiving comes to mind.
Finally coaching. Matt LaFleur is an innovative HC and superior to Dan Campbell. Will Campbell be as successful without Ben Johnson as OC? He’ll eventually leave for his own job as HC. I see Campbell more as a motivator than an offensive play caller. Still his team is always a tough out.
The biggest challenge for the Packers going forward is how they handle success. They’ll be the media darlings to unseat the 49ers in the NFC. As long as they work hard and stay humble, they’ll be fine. Our QB seems to know no other way.

The Rams drafted a 5th round rookie receiver last season and all he did was catch

Kevin, Ferris, Cheese, MMSUCKS, and a few select others are the only remaining Packer fans who still hate on Brian Gutekunst. These sooth sayers predicted the Packers down fall. Envisioning a return to the 70’s and 80’s without their beloved Aaron Rodgers. The greatest QB to ever don an NFL uniform. Not only did such apocalyptic predictions never materialize. The Packers have actually thrived without Aaron Rodgers and have perhaps the best young QB in the NFC thanks to Brian Gutekunst. Along with some shrewd drafting our GM has this team set to challenge the 49ers for supremacy of the NFC next season and he isn’t afraid to let the Lions know it.

Back in October the offense looked terrible. Forget scoring points, which you need to do to win. We couldn’t get first downs. We were consistently getting shut out in the first half of games. While Kevin and his fellow football savants were demanding everyone be fired. Now it wasn’t all Jordan Love’s fault. With Aaron Jones out with a hamstring injury, we had no running game. WR’s were running the wrong routes and dropping passes. But Love looked timid, wasn’t setting his feet and was often late or erratic with his throws. In short he was trending more like DeShone Kizer rather than the QB he became.
Jordan Love addressed his struggles on the Micah Parsons podcast. When he said, after the Raiders game where he threw three INT’s, “I’m a great player, I know what I’m seeing, I have to trust myself.” Things began to change after that. You started to see a different Jordan Love beginning with a loss to Pittsburgh.
I’ve said multiple times you’re nothing in the NFL without a franchise QB. I also said way back in October that the Bears would draft Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. Sure enough, that’s exactly what the Bears are going to do. I also said Drake Maye would be drafted second overall. It now looks like Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels will go two and three in the draft. You don’t want to be in the same division with Caleb Williams and have no franchise QB. If Jordan Love wasn’t going to be the answer, then we needed to pivot to plan B. And plan B would’ve been to position ourselves to draft Maye or Daniels. Fortunately Love figured it all out. But it was no sure thing back in October. And I said as much.
Jordan Love finished the season going 9-8, making the playoffs and winning a playoff game. Where he put up 48 against a good Dallas team on the road. He finished the season with 32 passing TD’s, 4 rushing TD’s, just 11 INT’s and 4159 passing yards. Had Aaron Rodgers put up such lofty numbers Kevin would’ve popped a boner so fast he couldn’t wait to tell us about it. Instead he rambles on about combining WR’s stats. Something no one ever does. It’s OK to acknowledge Brian Gutekunst is a good GM and knows what he’s doing. It’s OK to acknowledge Jordan Love is a franchise QB. But none of you will. Instead you’ll bitch about all manner of piddly little things…

Therefore, in my self described expert analysis, i said that the Packers should scrap the season, lose the rest of their games, and draft Williams or Maye’s to replace the Jordan Love experiment.
Then, to my shock and outrage…i got the nickname Flip Flop.
Which is fitting, but i still don’t like it.
I mean…how can i argue it?

The other thing it did was, the readers here lost respect for anything i write in here and they pick on me for it. They keep doing it even after i complained about it to the boss.

That’s right Regnad. The Bakhtiari injury was so devastating that the Packers went 13-3 without him the following season and Rodgers won his second MVP. Ted drafted Josh Jones, not Gutekunst. Kevin likes to lump Ted’s draft busts in with Gutekunst’s for dramatic effect as well. No GM bats a thousand. Ron Wolf didn’t. Ted didn’t. But you’ve got to hit on most of them. Gutekunst does just that. I see a roster full of talented young players. And it all starts at QB.
But by all means live the fantasy. It’s Brian Gutekunst’s fault Rodgers choked in the playoffs. And this team is destined to return to the 70’s. No reason to let reality cloud your thinking…..

In October we were 2-5 and had the 5th pick in the upcoming draft. Within striking distance from drafting either Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Brian Gutekunst was absolutely weighing his future QB options in October. His job depended of finding the next franchise QB for the Green Bay Packers. And he wouldn’t have hesitated to reset the QB clock if need be. Make no mistake, Jordan Love was on a short leash.
