Due to some deal with the devil or maybe a fiddle duel involving a Packer benefactor, who knows, but the 2023 Green Bay Packers are going to the playoffs.
Their opponent in the NFC wild card game, Dallas Cowboys, is helmed by former Packers coach and the target of various bans from Green Bay buffets (are we still doing fat jokes in 2024? or just ironically?), Mike McCarthy.
Looking for some juicy drama while they wait for Aaron Rodgers to do his Tuesday thing with McAfee, the sports media looked to the McCarthy vs Packers angle for some drama. In McCarthy fashion, he shut them down:
This game’s about our commitment. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing — and it really doesn’t. . . . It’s just no time for that. I answered the questions honestly in here last year about my experience up there. It just will not help us win. So if it doesn’t help us win a game, I’m not interested in it.”Mike McCarthy via ESPN
It’s no surprise Mike knows all about the media at this point in his career and how to handle them. No pregame drama quotes like last week with Fields et al running their mouths leading up to the game.
All trash talk aside, McCarthy is 42-25 as the Cowboys’ coach and he has shown, once again, that he has the goods. His days with Green Bay were obviously over at the time, but he seems to have found his groove in Dallas.
Of course, Jerry Jones still doesn’t seem keen to cut him much slack:
Could be out of context, but either way, I think McCarthy is going to stick around with the Cowboys for a bit.
