Packers News: Recent Roster Changes
James Robinson Joins the Squad
Green Bay Packers have made a significant move by signing free-agent running back James Robinson to their practice squad. Robinson, a former 1,000-yard rusher with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is expected to add depth to the Packers’ running back room.

Implications for AJ Dillon
The arrival of Robinson could spell changes for AJ Dillon, the Packers’ current RB2 behind Aaron Jones. Dillon has had a lackluster season, averaging only 3.0 yards per carry.
The Packers’ decision to bring in Robinson could be a strategic move to potentially replace Dillon if he doesn’t improve his performance. Robinson, who had a promising rookie season but struggled after a torn Achilles in 2021, is viewed as a low-risk, high-reward addition to the team.
What This Means for the Packers
The Packers are known for their under-the-radar signings that often pay off. For example, De’Vondre Campbell and Rasul Douglas were both signed to affordable deals and have become reliable starters.
The team hopes for similar success with Robinson. If he can regain his previous form, the Packers could have a stronger and more versatile running back room, which would be a significant asset as they aim for a deep playoff run.
NFL Betting for Canada based fans might take note of Robinson’s performance, but it’s unlikely that his addition alone will significantly alter the Packers’ overall odds for a deep playoff run.
Robinson initially joins the Packers on their practice squad, a separate roster that allows teams to develop and evaluate players without including them in the 53-man active roster. Being on the practice squad means Robinson won’t be eligible to play in games right away, but it gives him an opportunity to impress the coaching staff during practices.
If he performs well and shows that he can add value to the team, he could be promoted to the active roster. Once on the active roster, he would be eligible to participate in games, potentially adding depth and versatility to the Packers’ running back room.
Takeaways
- Keep an eye on how Robinson integrates into the Packers’ system. His performance in practice and potential game time will be telling.
- AJ Dillon should consider this a wake-up call. Now is the time to step up his game if he wants to secure his spot on the roster.
- For fantasy football owners, Robinson is worth a speculative add, especially in deeper leagues. His upside could be significant if he gets the opportunity to shine.

Anyone seen our 1st round pick do anything this yr yet?? I haven’t. Better send out search & rescue dogs to find him.
Are you Carlos Brown or Alan Autry?
someone who knows
Our first round pick is on the bench, where most of our first round projects start their career.
I didn’t post that. Are we still having issues logging in under other people’s info?!
That was me 87.
This place is like Tommi and the Packer front office….
BROKEN
That’s cool, I’m just glad the current owner has his priorities straight with watching the language to increase site flow and all that. I’m sure something like a breech of privacy is way less important to traffic retention than saying a naughty word and being babysat.
Yea 87, i think we all know how (who) caused this situation.
The pity is, it’s the opposite of what this site was built on.
This place (Monty) didn’t cater to whiney, sniveling crybabies before like they do now, where crying like a child is rewarded.
BROKEN
The move seems more desperate than strategic.
^That^
Moving on…..
I expect the offense to have a good game against Denver, i wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Greg Jennings with 8 catches 85 yards, or Randy Moss to compile 121 yards in 7 grabs.
He..ll, even Tucker Kraft may surprise us and double his season output and catch a pass for 10 yards.
Good things 💯
OOPS, don’t be surprised if Tony Gonzalez has a productive day, maybe 70 yards, 2 TD’s.
We are going to eat Denver’s lunch!!
Off the cuff……
How bad is a 32.2 passer rating in the NFL?
Well….imagine a Packer QB throwing 6 interceptions in one playoff game 22 years ago.
His passer rating was 53
Even with that, it gets worse in that game, the Packers lost 2 fumbles.
8 freeking turnovers, in one game, that has to be a record i’d think.
who can ever forget that Hillbilly killing us with Picks vs Rams & every other team. 2007 Champ game in the belly of Giant DB. Now he just torches Wellfare
If you walked on the field and made one throw and it fell incomplete, you would have a 39 passer rating.
Gotta Love that Front Office, take back up LB from Iowa STUNNING MOVE, by Fat boy Gutty. Christ sake at least get back up from SEC
I don’t really think this team is going to be making any ground breaking moves other than churning bodies at the bottom of the roster and practice squad. With a trade deadline approaching they probably aren’t in much of a position to be buyers or sellers unless it is a move which provides cap relief moreso than trying to land someone impactful in a position of need. The fact is, they still have another year to deal with some cap money mess, now especially in the case of Bahk.
–
Then beyond this, who do you pay big going forward? The name at the top of that list seems to be Gary. His pass rush is great but his containment sometimes still has issues like it always has. He seems to have rebounded well from injury but how much $$$ is he really worth going forward? The most impactful player on the current offense took a pay cut to hang around (Jones).
–
So this running back guy is just a guy. Doesn’t really move the needle of interest but we can hope they might find a diamond in the rough.
I think as far as Packer management is concerned, this is the year of ‘The Pass’.
They have a first year starting QB (who knows the offense fully), and a sheet ton of young, raw wr’s and tight ends.
So everyone seems to be giving them a pass. Or a season long honeymoon, so to speak.
I call it the season long training camp, (again)
Even though Gute, answering a reporters question says “the standard in Green Bay is always the same.”
Well, clearly that is bullschmit
No one (including Gute), has any Championship hopes this season.
Always the same?….Sure Gute, sure, whatever you say Tiger….lol.
Personally, i give Love and the offense ‘somewhat’ of a pass.
It isn’t Loves fault all his receivers are young and raw.
Gute, i don’t give him any rope, except to hang himself.
It’s Gutes fault the offensive skill positions are where they are last season, and this season, the players have nothing to do with that.
Maybe Gute can replenish the pass catching talent on this team, before Murphy retires and Gute is shown the door, like Jordy was.
What’s the difference between Gute and Jordy Nelson?
Jordy Nelson had actual success before he was let go.
Gute will be known as the guy who gave up on his team, and drafted bench players for the future.
Good thing they have Teds 5th round pick Aaron Jones on the roster, he’s the only offensive difference maker on the team.
Without him, they are probably in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes.
Bring on Denver!!
Gutey needs a win!!
The season long training camp… if that ain’t the truth.
If people want to believe Gute when he says “this is not a rebuild” then have at it. First year starting QB and a WR/TE core with next to no playing experience. This offense has no identity other than hoping Aaron Jones, a TT pick, can come save the day and make this team look competent again.
That, and playing bottom feeder defenses.
Against defense’s that can apply pressure, Love has QB ratings of…
66.4
69.9
32.2
In those 3 games…..
Love threw 2 TD passes, against 5 interceptions.
What’s almost more alarming, is the soft schedule so far.
Based on last years standings, the 5 teams the Packers played this season have a win percentage of……376
Then add Denver who was 5-12 last season.
1-5 this season, sporting the last place defense.
Is this Denver game a must win?
Hel yea it is.
You don’t want to be 2-4 against bottom filler teams.
If the Pack loses to Denver, here’s what happens, the media in Green Bay and Nationally, will start to question ‘Gute’s Plan’.
Like some of us have been doing for years…par for the course right?
Critical game tomorrow. Marginal QB Justin Fields lit up the Denver defense like a Christmas tree. If Jordan Love can’t get off to a fast start against the Broncos, then it’s probably never going to happen. Especially coming off their bye and the roster as healthy as it’s been since week one. Jordan Love’s career hangs in the balance. Either way, we’ll have some answers.
That’s a pretty reasonable post there Tom. I agree that if it doesn’t happen this weekend then it’s not going to this season, at least. I thought that if the Packers went 8-9 this season it would be a success since Rodgers did the same with a marginally different roster and people need time to gel and figure it out on offense with how young they are. But as you pointed out we’re going up against a close to historically bad defense in the Bronco’s with plenty of time to prepare given the bye and it’s week 7, almost to the half way point of the season.
I also think this is a prove it game for LaFleur. He’s had a relatively easy ride so far and I haven’t knocked him. Hopefully he learned a lot that was useful if not from Rodgers directly then just by working with him if nothing else. That being said I did not like the way he got snappy with reporters after I think it was the Raiders game. He ate up the attention and did it all right when the full blame wasn’t on him, he can’t get pissy with the press when it is on him. Not this early in facing adversity. There’s no reason he shouldn’t have this team prepared for Denver.
Chicago currently owns the 1st and 3rd pick in the first round of next years draft. They’ll draft QB Caleb Williams USC. The Minnesota Vikings at 2-4 will be without their best player, Justin Jefferson, who’s currently on the DL for at least a month with a hamstring injury. The Vikings could easily be 2-8 a month from now. That puts Minnesota in the QB Drake Maye NC sweepstakes. The other can’t miss college QB prospect.
We all better pray to the football gods that Jordan Love figures this out and soon. We could be looking at both Caleb Williams and Drake Maye in the NFC north. That could very well be like having Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert in the AFC west in your division in a few years. Add to that the resurgent Detroit Lions and the Packers could easily end up bottom feeders in the NFC north. That’s how quickly things can change in the NFL.
If Jordan Love can’t get off to a quick start tomorrow, then there has to be some discussion in the building about tanking the remainder of the season. In order to position yourself to draft a blue chip QB prospect. Unless Sean Clifford is the next Brock Purdy. Which is doubtful.
“That’s a pretty reasonable post there Tom.”
I’ll take…. ‘things never said in this forum for $400 Alex.” 🤪
Hang on, the entertainment continues…….

Yes!!… if Jordan fails in the Packers 6th game of the season, the team should just quit trying to win and get a real QB!!
Yes!!…. after 3 years of hearing how Gute has a plan, how hearing that Love is going to beat out Rodgers, how hearing that Love is the Packers next franchise QB, the team should just quit trying to win and get a real QB!!
YES….After giving up on the 2020 team, and drafting for the future.
After 3 years of dissension and epic management F ups.
What the Packers should do according to Tommi is just say F… IT and quit trying!!
Giving Love 6 games to prove himself, handicapped by a lack of experience and production.
GREAT IDEA SCOOTER!!
WHAT SAY YOU 87?….Sound reasonable?
So smart 🥱
BRILLIANT!! 🤪

Why didn’t i think of that?
Oh yea, because i’m stupid….ain’t that right Tommi?
So entertaining…Thank you Tommi 😃
Eh, it’s a tale of two halves with that post. I think Tom is right that that if we can’t beat Denver this week and at least look promising then our hope for doing anything more this season is pretty diminished. That is a team that’s obviously in disarray and has deeper problems than just playing.
On the other hand no, I don’t think a less-than-stellar performance means the end for Love, but I will be more critical on Love and LaFleur going forward. We all know the Packers as an organization don’t move quickly on anything no matter how obvious a needed change is, like Ted Thompson at the end there. I’m okay with that being the situation on Love. I honestly expected Love to be a little more prepared than he’s been this year as far as accuracy, but I can’t pretend to know that the receivers aren’t in the right spots or be 100% confident in why things are looking as bad as they are other than the offense is just young and inexperienced. All I’m saying is if we can’t beat Denver then I think my success mark of 8-9 will not be achieved and I’ll have to reevaluate my hopes and thoughts for the season.
I won’t crucify Love or any of the young guys on offense, although I’m less and less confident in Watson every time I see his name on the injury report. If he can’t stay healthy it doesn’t matter how talented he is. I’ve seen flashes of promise from Reed and Doubs and some others though and that’s all I could realistically hope for out of this season. Next season I’ll have expectations for them to be much more in click with time to build bonds and get on the same page.
At the end of the day my main gripes still lie with Murphy who is much more interested in building the brand than the team and Gutes for, as I said before, making decisions to build two different teams at the same time and succeeding at neither. I would have respected moving on from Rodgers and going hard into the rebuild with extra picks. I would have respected staying with Rodgers and chasing the championship. But without committing to one or the other the attempt at a balancing act has only set us back further and left us with more questions and prolonged pain like slowly pulling off the band aid instead of just getting it over with.
Now if we’re in this same situation at this time next year? I’d say all bets are off. Hopefully that won’t be the case though and all these guys need is some time to figure it out.
P.S. I NEVER support any team tanking. No, I’m not a GM or owner or anything else but in my opinion if I have people on my team; players, coaches, waterboy, chef, even a valet that is okay with tanking and losing on purpose then I have the wrong people in my building to ever achieve greatness.
It aint no thing 87 😉, i just don’t think you have a full understanding of our resident viking fan Tommi.
“That’s how quickly things can change in the NFL when ‘Gutes plan’ is even dumber than the things i write in here” – Gomer
It takes you Kevin two or three years to determine if a player can play in the NFL. It takes everyone else 7 or 8 games to know if a guy can play or not. The game does not wait for you to pass judgement. So go back to your meaningless first half competition percentage stats that no one cares about.
Pay attention, there’s three ways this goes down from here on out. First, Jordan Love finally puts four quarters of consistent franchise QB play together in Denver today and he begins to stack these performances for the remainder of the season. We’ve got our guy and all is good. Secondly, he never figures it out and we finish 4-13 and take it on the chin this season. But that’s not even the worst of it. At least that puts us in the Drake Maye conversation. And lastly, Jordan Love is as good as he gets, remains maddeningly inconsistent, allowing us to win 7 or 8 games and puts us out of range to draft a top tier QB in next years college draft. Chicago will have two of the top 3 to 5 picks in the draft. One they’ll use on a QB. The other pick they’ll trade to a team in need of a QB. They will not trade that pick to either QB needy teams like Green Bay or Minnesota for obvious reasons. The Chicago Bears are in the catbird seat in next years draft. They’ll determine where the top two college QB’s will end up. And neither will be in GB should Jordan Love fail.
But none of you ladies have the intelligence to look ahead. You spend your time looking back. Blaming AJ Dillion, Sean Rhyan or the fact that Ted didn’t draft TJ Watt. So go on with your absolutely meaningless rants and let the big boys figure out how to fix this should plan A fail…

I’m not so sure my friend, that there were many expectations of a winning season this year to begin with.
This season is a 17 game training camp and a look into why…..we went through the last 3 years (of wtf are the Packers doing) as we have.
Again….With Aaron Jones, we wouldn’t have to tank for Caleb Williams, we already be there.
I also think many have jumped the gun here, lets see what happens first.
As i’ve stated, i think the Packers beat Denver, and possibly might have a big game doing it.
This is Denver.
Grrrr….
* “Again….Without Aaron Jones, we wouldn’t have to tank for Caleb Williams, we’d already be there.
I’ll stay in school!! 🤪
I just (fully) read your post 87, i agree with most.
We disagree on measuring success at 8 or 9 wins.
Especially if Gute says…the standard in Green Bay is always the same.
Gute has had 6 drafts, Love obviously knows the offense inside out, our defense has 8 first round draft picks.
So, i’m not handicapping the measure of success (or giving a pass), just because Gute neglected the skill players on offense.
That is on Gute, this is year 6 of building his roster.
6 years!!….He’s done with ‘passes’.
The honeymoon is over.
Oh make no mistake bro, that’s just my personal expectation. If they exceed it that’s great, but I’d be…content given the status of this team this year if we went 8-9. And I only set that as my own personal mark due to Rodgers going 8-9 with a marginally different roster last year, so if the young’ns can reach that mark I won’t complain too much.
I know what Gutes says is the standard. I also know I don’t trust Gutes as far as I can throw him since actions speak louder than words and I think he’s a crap GM. He’s quite literally the only one I don’t give a pass to on this season. We should have never been in this position to begin with.
In other news Love just threw the game losing interception. I don’t like what I saw tonight at all. With a bye week there’s no reason we should have looked this unprepared. That was embarrassing and I’m getting more critical on LaFleur with each passing game as well.
