Was the Packers Downfall Just a Matter of Time?

The Green Bay Packers have begun the NFL season rather poorly especially as they were expected to be one of the top teams in the NFC. Defeat to mid-west rivals Minnesota Vikings set the tone in the opening fixture and form has not improved since.

A few victories came in the following weeks but did little to paper over the cracks as in October they lost to both New York teams before losing to the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions not long after.
The team looks painfully average on the field, with the defense giving up straightforward touchdowns, and offensively even Aaron Rodgers does not seem to be his typical self, perhaps lacking inspiration as a result of having minimal quality receivers at his disposal.

— FOX Sports: NFL (@NFLonFOX) October 25, 2022

Green Bay have time to turn their fortunes around but Rodgers’ chances of a second Super Bowl ring seem to be quickly slipping away this season as there are little signs of the Packers finding a rhythm and improving their form once again. The Packers are now massive outsiders at +10000 to be NFL champions this season.

Sportsbetting is huge in the United States now with it being a tradition for many people to place a bet on the team they predict to go all of the way each year, this trend is certainly present in Ohio right now as multiple sports seasons begin. To place a bet on the remainder of the Packers NFL season with the best odds and promo offers you can claim your BetRivers Ohio bonus code.

They can still fight to reach the playoffs, but they do not seem prepared to truly compete with the top teams in the NFL. Many people would argue this has been a long time coming due to issues with recruitment over the past few years. Aaron Rodgers almost decided to retire in 2021 as a result of his frustrations with the team at the board level.

Rodgers as the star man of the team and very much a leader wanted to have much more of an influence in decision-making off the pitch, specifically regarding the much-needed acquisitions of top-quality wide receivers. There was a compromise made as NFL wide receiver Randall Cobb joined last year and efforts were made to sign Odell Beckham Jr in the same off-season but they were ultimately unsuccessful and a player of Rodgers’ quality has not been sufficiently backed.

The quarterback has been far from his best this season but it’s possible that he is not fully motivated due to off-the-field issues. After all, how can a star player be expected to lead his team to Super Bowl victories if he is not aided by players of similar quality as per ProFootballTalk?

Is the Packers' passing game suffering because Aaron Rodgers doesn't trust his receivers? 😬 pic.twitter.com/vokhlLcoZl

— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) November 1, 2022

We have seen for many years in a row now Rodgers being in peak form and being one of the most impressive players in the league being let down by a lack of top-quality wide receivers. Perhaps he feels as if he is fighting a losing battle and that without key additions he cannot solely carry the team to glory. He has been loyal to the Packers for 17 years now and has certainly been short-changed in terms of his reward for doing so.
Rodgers vows to never quit anything he begins but this really could be his last season if the picture does not change quickly on and off the pitch at Green Bay.

If Rodgers isn’t motivated by his 150 million dollar contract then there isn’t going to be a player or a group of players that are going to motivate him. If you want to make this about the WR position, then where was Rodgers in the offseason working with his young guys. Coaching them up, building chemistry. He can throw them under the bus now but he can’t be bothered to put in the time when it mattered. And if this was about Davante Adams, then where was assistant GM Aaron Rodgers telling his favorite WR, look, I’ll take less money, let’s make this a package deal and we both come back. Let’s figure out a way to make this work. It’s what Tom Brady would have done. But Rodgers tells Pat McAfee I’m gonna put the Packers “feet to the fire” over the Jordan Love pick. The irony in all this, Mike McCarthy is going to kick little Erin’s ass on Sunday then he’ll be benched in favor of Jordan Love, finishing the season and his career like it started, holding a clipboard. The NFL has a way of humbling you. It’s time for Erin’s feet to get warm.

If you have to depend on a rookie draft class, you have already lost.
      .
Yes…because of Gutes incompetence, Rodgers should cancel all his off season plans and spend his summer working with the draft picks fixing Gutes roster mismanagement.
      .
“Aaron Rodgers telling his favorite WR, look, I’ll take less money, let’s make this a package deal.”
Yes Princess….Rodgers should have to take less money because of Gutes incompetence.
      .
“Mike McCarthy is going to kick little Erin’s ass on Sunday”
The Packers are going to lose to McCarthy because the Packers are in a weakened state, that the team hasn’t seen in decades.
On top of that, 17 players, mostly starters are on the injury report.
McCarthy vs Rodgers…..isn’t that right Princess?

      McCarthy vs Rodgers.
Or its the team McCarthy inherited against the team that Murphy and Gute let go to shit.

How about…..Kellen Moore vs Matt LaFleur.
      .
      Or…Jerry Jones vs Mark Murphy.

      I don’t fucking think so.

The Packers are like Hallmark channel movies. You want Robert Deniro for a part but you end up with Treat Williams. You ask for Keanu Reeves but Cameron Mathison shows up for the audition. Now theres nothing wrong with that. Your grandparents love Treat Williams but he aint winning an Oscar anytime soon. Thats the Packers.

    • Arch Stanton on November 10, 2022 5:46 am

Check out Kurt Warner QB Confidential on You Tube. Educate yourself. You might learn something. Aaron Rodgers is not the main issue with this team.

      • Arch Stanton on November 10, 2022 6:00 am

Bottom line. The Packers are a poorly coached team with overmatched players.

        • Tom M on November 10, 2022 10:28 am

Sure Arch. It’s why they’ve won 13 games each of the last three years because they’re poorly coached and the players are over matched. The only player that looks overmatched to me is Aaron Rodgers. Think maybe he could be the problem? Everyone else except ardent Rodgers fans thinks so. And even Packer fans are starting to turn on your hero. When you a diva and you win, your eccentric. When your a diva and you lose, your just an ass hole. Rodgers qualifies for the latter.

          • Arch Stanton on November 10, 2022 11:18 am

Sure Tom, I think you’re the one who qualifies as an ass hole based upon the remarks you make on here. Did you even watch the Kurt Warner analysis? Off course you didn’t because Erin Rodgers. The problem with Rodgers haters like you is you only look at the way he is playing and because of you’re hatred don’t see how bad this whole team is. Is Rodgers playing up to the standard he’s set for himself the last two years? Of course not. He’s 39 years old so there is going to be some slippage of his skills. But for idiots like you to look at how this team is playing and say it’s all Erin’s fault, you prove time and again how ignorant you are.

Should Rodgers have been traded a year or two ago when the Packers could have gotten something for him? Absolutely. Should the the Packers brain trust have paid him the absurd amount and given him the contract he has now? Of course not. But then those front office idiots seem to be your heroes so it doesn’t make any sense that you aren’t supporting what is happening right now.

        • PF4L on November 10, 2022 11:04 am

Of course Rodgers isn’t the main issue.
          .
But for the simple minded, there is no greater joy in the lives of those who live to dump on Rodgers when the team underperforms, mostly due to the incompetence of others.

Holy crap, Piffle! Just look at those 3 INTs versus the Lions, how horrific those throws were, grade school bad, and you will see Rodgers, though not the only problem, is the main problem.

      • Empacador on November 10, 2022 11:13 am

Thanks for that information Arch on the YouTube channel. That was very eye opening to say the least. Watkins needs to be gone yesterday after watching whatever the hell he was doing out there. You’d think a seasoned veteran with time in the league would understand simple concepts as Warner explained them. That dude is a menace.

        • Arch Stanton on November 10, 2022 11:23 am

You’re welcome. I think there are some people on here (Tom M) who should school themselves on what is happening with this team before they post the stupid comments they do.

LOL….Tommi’s been schooled, hundreds of times, trust that!
            .

            .
            Being stupid isn’t a sin Tommi…Stop pretending.

            **************************
I didn’t watch the Warner video, but i’m guessing a lot (or some) of it is things i’ve already covered.

  4. Mitch Anthony on November 9, 2022 10:41 pm

Yes, it was just a matter of time. It was especially evident to plenty of fans and plenty of people who looked at this picture and asked themselves, “Are they trying to build for the future? Are they trying to go all-in with what they have? What is this because it just doesn’t make sense. You just can’t do both at the same time.”
    –
I just get a kick out of all the – let’s park Rodger’s ass on the bench talk. Sure, let’s motivate him to simply retire at the end of this season, or even sooner. That last contract guarantees something like $101 million and you’ll be paying a retired guy some pretty big chunks of cap money for the next couple/few seasons – to be retired. That will help this mess how?
    –
I said before in another thread a while back that I don’t think any QB in the league would be successful under center with the disfunctional o-line they were initially fielding along with the current receiver crop. That’s not meant to be an endorsement of Rodgers because I agree that his play has been below the standards we’re used to seeing from him. If Jordan Love was to take the field of play right now, he’d likely look pretty bad, he’d run for his life, he’d scramble, he’d try to run here and there, and he’d toss a bunch of picks as well. Here and there he might have some surprise moments, good quarters, maybe a decent looking game, but with the lack of overall talent on the squad it wouldn’t be that good and probably horrible for any positive development for Jordan Love. Then next season, since you decide to roll with Love, or that high draft pick QB that Gute will score on next year you’ll continue that rebuild with an empty purse because – you pissed off a guy who is now retired and eating up gobs of cap. That’s just a pragmatic outlook of what the team would be dealing with. You’re screwed for a few years because the cap hell doesn’t allow you to re-sign some core players you’d like to keep around and you’re back with draft and develop and your GM doesn’t often draft well.
    –
They drafted Jordan Love to be a successor, then they likely seen what they had and they got uncomfortable. The guy he was supposed succeed went out and put up back to back MVP seasons. They, the front office, made the deal with Rodgers for that extension. Aaron Rodgers did not write and sign his own deal. They could have traded him when his value would have brought this team a lot to rebuild with (and I would have been fine with that) but it was the front office who made this deal and several other deals with a credit card for kicking big money down the road. For sure, Rodgers is huge part of that cap hell but he’s not the only one. I’d give the team a pass on the Bahk deal because that injury was just horrible luck but some of those other deals, not so much. The end of that road is being reached now.
    –
I’ve been on here for years and I’ve bitched about their talent evaluation and player choices for a long time now. I’m not at all surprised at where they are and for as bad as this year seems right now, I think next season probably projects to be much the same or worse.

  5. Killer on November 10, 2022 12:14 pm

Rodgers is a living billboard to not ingest or smoke or utilize ayuacuasa or whatever that crap is. We know he took it before this season but do not know if he took it before then. No matter what he says because he is a renowned liar. Don’t do it kids! It’ll make you throw interceptions and make a bad attitude even worse. Just look at Aaron!

ESPN is now reporting that Aaron Rodgers is losing the locker room over statements he’s made about his teammates and coaches. The national media is saying Rodgers is washed up and it’s only a matter of time before Jordan Love starts games. Even Packer fans are beginning to question him. Just on this site, comments are turning more critical about Rodgers and rightfully so. The end is near ladies. I know you’re all terrified but it needs to happen.

  9. Mitch Anthony on November 11, 2022 12:29 pm

I don’t deny that Rodgers probably checks out of the play(s) that MLF sends in. I don’t know how often that may occur and I doubt that many of us really do.
    –
Now if Rodgers is/was the cause of all these problems, all these issues, if he has been such a malcontent, such a Prima Donna, such a distraction, and such a detriment to this team for as long as some seem to say. Then why the hell wasn’t he traded? Why?
    –
Consider if Matt LaFleur went to Gute at any time in the last few seasons and said, “I can’t do a thing with him. He just doesn’t listen to me, he doesn’t run my plays, he thinks he’s in charge and wants to run it his own way. It’s not like I’m even the coach here and it’s hard to run my scheme. I’m the coach here, not him, I think we should trade him. We need to go with people who will trust this system and this is the time we can make bank on him before he’s too old.” Don’t you think they would have moved on?
    –
That’s why I say this is on management. They knew what they had/have in their players, at least they should. They made the decision to go with Rodgers and the extension. They are the ones who make the decisions on draft day and how they want to build the team. They haven’t built a very good one. When it comes down to it, they just don’t draft all that well.

    • PF4L on November 11, 2022 3:56 pm

      I’m almost speechless
      .
When you read things on a football forum, and they talk about things that they are “clearly” assuming, guessing, or downright lying about….ie: things said that would require first hand knowledge.
It’s clear they don’t know what they are talking about, which is why i respond to them the way i do.
      .
Don’t try to analyze or rationalize it out…because it’s clearly bullshit to begin with. That line of thinking is for the
      dullest of the simple minded.
      .
Will Rodgers choose his own play in a RPO? Will Rodgers change a run play to the other side because he see’s a better chance? Will Rangers change a play if he gets a one high safety? Will he switch a play if he see’s the defense change their scheme and he likes the look? etc, etc….
Yes, just like any other veteran QB.
      .
This is simple….even if you think there is a shred of credibility in any viewpoint from people with an obvious bias against Rodgers to begin with.

Then why did they have 3 seasons of being 39-10?
      Hmmm….i guess whatever they were doing….was working…then?.
      .
But again….now all of a sudden, there is this deep divide suddenly causing all of our current problems.
There could be no other factors involved?
      .

I’m a lifelong packer fan.I grew up watching the Lombardi packers.Truth is, their record the last 3 seasons is a little deceiving. My memory isn’t perfect But I believe they made the NFC championship game two or three times recently and it looked like they didn’t belong each and every time. To have roughly 30 years of Hall of Fame quarterbacks, and come away with two Super Bowls, absolutely says upper management is not doing their job. A lot of the fan base has gotten “conditioned” to win their division and then get blown out in the playoffs and “get them next year”. The window has closed on this group and that’s just the way it is.
