While “Mississippi Welfare Scandal” sounds like an undesirable sexual position, it is in fact Brett Favre’s current reality as the former Packers QB faces mounting legal pressure. Currently, he has not been charged with anything, but the heat is rising as more details have emerged.

The latest chapter of the saga involves The Athletic and ESPN publishing details about Favre’s Mississippi charity, Favre 4 Hope, and its dealings with the University of Southern Mississippi(Favre’s alma mater). You can read the details of that story here.
The gist of the allegations is being a party to funneling state welfare funds for other use — in this case, a volleyball facility at USM. It’s a horrible look for the former hall of famer and these recently released details only further doom Favre. These come after a state auditor revealed that Favre was paid for speeches he never even gave.
Brett Favre: Will the media find out that we're using welfare funds intended to help the poorest residents of America's poorest state to build a volleyball center?

Favre’s response last year:
Of course the money was returned because I would never knowingly take funds meant to help our neighbors in need, but for Shad White to continue to push out this lie that the money was for no-show events is something I cannot stay silent about.

The Onion has taken a shot at the situation with the headline: Brett Favre Makes Amends By Sending Photo Of His Penis To Every Mississippian On Welfare. Using a charity that was supposedly for breast cancer and helping children to illegally divert welfare funds to build a sports facility is not a good look for anyone. The Juice is even blushing at this one, folks.
In Favre’s defense, he didn’t whip out his unit in public, so he has not hit rock bottom just yet — but there’s still plenty of 2022 left.

Investigation into Favre’s involvement is a part of a much larger investigation of the state’s use of welfare funds. Overall, it is shaping up to be the largest welfare fraud case in the state’s history. Mississippi Free Press has full timeline of Favre’s involvement if you wish to learn more details.
ESPN: How Brett Favre is Embroiled in Mississippi’s Largest Welfare Fraud Case
I’ll state the obvious here: Favre’s recent foray into outwardly speaking about his conservative beliefs probably helped fuel the media’s desire to investigate this but the bottom line is that the writing is on the wall and his involvement seems to be well documented. As far as spending time in prison, I very much doubt it. Either way, it’s a very disappointing chapter in an otherwise impressive career and we can all expect for coverage and details to continue to emerge.
Excellent topic, i’ve been waiting for this.
.
Where to start……my .02
.
Like a lot of folks, i lost some respect for Favre through the years.
No, it wasn’t because he put a viking uniform on, it was all his drama leading up to it and how it was done, starting with his retirement talk rooted as far back as right after the 1996 SB win.
All his Diva bs. Going on Greta Van Susteren show to air all his Packer dirty laundry on National TV (Who the fuck does that?)
His Mama speaking out declaring the Packers aren’t showing Brett enough love that they want him, ie: begging Farve to stay.
Personally…i talked about how the Packers should trade Favre after the 04 and 05 seasons while the Packers could reap the benefits.
Much the same that i professed that the Packers should have done the same with Rodgers after the Love pick.
I mean, at the time the Packers mindset was clearly, to move on from Rodgers, then Rodgers wants to be traded, it all fit. They could have gotten mega draft resources from the 49ers it looked like. IF they went that route. They declined.
But i digress……
Back to Favre…the list goes on….it’s no secret he used to cheat on his wife all the time when he had his steakhouse in Milwaukee. (I know this from people that worked there).
Reportedly cheating, or trying to cheat on his wife while going through her cancer treatment/recovery.
Yes…the list goes on.
So jump ahead a decade or so, Favre and the Packers have a relationship again, same with Favre and Rodgers, the tribute to Bart Starr, etc…so time heals some wounds…….including myself in my feelings toward Favre.
*
Now we have this welfare story, where Favre appears to be stone cold guilty, as documented in his own words from the investigation.
Now we watch Favre, despite the evidence against him( his own words) trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
.
So how are we, Green Bay Packer fans supposed to view this new situation in how we feel towards Favre?
If you love him and can forgive him…Bless your soul.
.
I view him as a complete narcissistic.
In light of his past, you’d think he’d mature and want to live somewhat of a righteous life.
.
That doesn’t seem to be the case. and it’s a damn shame.
.
If someone wants to hold Favre in high regard, God bless you.
But personally, i don’t know if i’d even give him the time of day.
Careful Jason, questioning an iconic Packer QB will get you labeled a Viking fan around here. Kevin asks “who the fuck goes on national TV to air their Packer dirty laundry?” Aaron Rodgers did it. Draft day a year ago last April and then the ensuing drama right up to training camp. Where Favre is vilified and rightfully so, Erin gets a pass. Both QB’s are Diva’s. Both QB’s lied to their fans. And both QB’s don’t think the rules apply to them. It therefore comes as no surprise that Brett Favre is in his current situation. While I’ve seen nothing so far that will lead to jail time. The damage is done as far as his image. If he even cares, which I doubt. I’m sure 5 to 10 years after retirement Rodgers will get outed or get caught in a gay bathhouse somewhere after years of trying to convince us he was straight. Favre like Rodgers has always been selfish and neither men were who they seemed. But I’ve got to read the Onion article. It sounds hilarious!
If you don’t like it here, LEAVE, it’s a free Country.
I don’t think anyone wants to read about you whining to Jason.
More than the whining, you already do.
Nobody wants you here to begin with, but you have no fucking life, so you squat here, where no one even likes you to begin with.
.
As far as Rodgers…write up a petition to have him banned from Green Bay, and even the NFL if that’s what blows your skirt up.
.
But for a week or two…can you just stfu about Rodgers, you don’t like him, we fucking get it.
Every fucking post you make…Rodgers, Rodgers, Erin, Erin, Erin…blah blah , stfu for once.
.
Man up and quit fucking whining.
“I’m sure 5 to 10 years after retirement Rodgers will get outed or get caught in a gay bathhouse somewhere after years of trying to convince us he was straight.” – Killer
He’s sure….because he knows everything……lol
.
I used to think E Wolf was the biggest tool that ever entered this website….fuck….Tommi beat him out about 14 months ago.
Past performance is usually a sound predictor of future outcomes. In this case, not as a football player but as a person. So in this case when we look back at his body of work – off the field, are we really all that surprised?
–
As with anyone, he deserves that benefit of doubt as being innocent until proven guilty. The process has to play out. But this doesn’t look good at all. Those e-mails threads make it kinda hard to say, “Aw shucks I’m just a country boy. I didn’t know.” No, getting that volleyball facility built while his daughter was in the program is just something that selfish ass would do. Like with so many other things in his personal life, just another means to an end. An end that’s good for him. That’s one reason I don’t think a political label fits him. He’s always been about him. He didn’t control the ultimate purse strings of those accounts, but it sure looks like he helped run the con.
–
Should the process play out to show a culpable depth of involvement, I hope he is uninvited from ever showing his face at Lambeau ever again. I say that because of the complete respect I have for the player and great human being that was Bart Starr. If it turns out he was really a crook who helped rip off the needy, he doesn’t walk into Lambeau again. Green Bay (the team, the city, the fan base) has shown him forgiveness on so many foibles through the years but this one deserves a limit.
–
People are trying to show you everyday who they really are. Let them.
I see Rodgers & Farve press venting as apples/oranges. Farve was all about Farve. Rodgers wanted his voice heard in conversations about wide receivers. That is about the Packers winning. Yes, there is Diva in both situations, but one says I want to win, the other says, I want to be begged to stay after I said I didn’t want to play or practice. Plus, Rodgers was very limited in his communications with the press about the actual conversations.
Good observations Mitch and Ed.
.
It seems Favre try’s to defend himself by declaring what he’s contributed to charities, or what his charity has contributed. Kind of a “deflection” strategy.
To me, it begs the question….how much money did he siphon from his own charity?
Because frankly, he seems to think it’s ok, even at his age.
Well said Mitch. Besides the highlights you already pointed out PF4L (forgot the drug addict), who here remembers when ol’ Bert compared himself leaving Green Bay to Vince Lombardi leaving for Washington? I mean those are totally the same thing, so in Bert’s mind Lombardi is revered so therefore Bert should be too. How about that time ol’ Bert went scorched earth wanting revenge so bad he offered the Lions insight into the Packers offense in an attempt help the Lions to beat Packers? And when ol’ Bert openly rooted for the Bears to beat the Packers in the 2010 NFC championship game? Or when ol’ Bert defined what a true Packer fan is? (If you aren’t backin’ the Bert, you ain’t a real Packer fan.) I’m sure all the fans that abide by Bert’s definition of what constitutes a Packer fan would have been ecstatic if the Packers ended up losing that NFC championship game. You know, since Lord Favre wanted it to be so. Pepperidge Farms certainly remembers. Somehow of the 2 diva QBs in Green Bay, it is clear one is a way worse garbage human being.
…
Look at the politics of the ol’ gunslinger, notice any similarities to #45, the ol’ orange grifter himself? Don’t care who you beg, borrow or steal from, it is never enough. People like them don’t give a fuck about you or me because they have been coddled their entire lives, worshipped and told how awesome and great they are. Like his mentor, I wish Favre would simply just go away.
Aaron Rodgers after signing his contract held out because Gutekunst cut Jake Kumerow who he never threw the ball to and the drafting of Jordan Love even though he knew he was a developmental player and absolutely no threat to him. It was a straight up power play by a guy who thinks he knows more than everyone else. Then after making a scene, he decided to stay after all. If you’ve got issues with your boss take it to him. Don’t handle it in public. Brett Favre retired. He decided to change his mind, fair enough. Instead of asking to be traded, we had the show up to training camp drama and all the ensuing bullshit that followed. With Murphy going to Mississippi and offering him 20 million just to shut the hell up and stay away. Both QB’s are drama queens with carefully crafted persona’s that are both total lies. Favre the country boy gunslinger that just wants to play ball and have fun. And Rodgers the pseudo intellectual straight man. Their careers are uncannily similar both on and off the field. I could go on if you like. But I think you get get the picture but maybe not. You can’t talk about one elephant in the room Favre, and ignore the other, Rodgers.
Why would Rodgers have a problem with drafting Jordan Love.
.
It’s not like every single person in the world expected Gute to nab a skilled offensive player in the 1st round.
.
It’s not like Rodgers didn’t know Love would be sitting on the bench instead of drafting skill players that could contribute on the field.
Rodgers had a problem with that?
Looking at how Gute handled the receiver room, looks like Rodgers was right like usual.
.
Things you never heard (by anyone) after the Love pick….”Great pick Gute!!!!”
**************
“……the drafting of Jordan Love even though he knew he was a developmental player and absolutely no threat to him.” – Tommi
.
Riddle me this Princess…..why would you then tell us a while back that Rodgers was scared that “Love was breathing down his back for the starter job?
.
That’s the thing about talking stupid Tommi, making up your own narratives….it’s really hard to keep your bullshit straight, isn’t it sweetheart.
“Look at the politics of the ol’ gunslinger, notice any similarities to #45, the ol’ orange grifter himself? Don’t care who you beg, borrow or steal from, it is never enough. Hey look another idiot who has Trump living in his head. Get over it snowflake. I got news for you: everything you just described above absolutely fits 90% of every politician in Washington, and it CERTAINLY applies to Joe Biden and his entire family.
I’m not the one jumping in to defend Bert and his mentor. And we know you’re a racist, so it’s only natural you resort to “snowflake” and other name-calling like the petulant child and the rest of the MAGA fucks like you are. Tell me, in your world is the Earth flat too? Keep doing you rebel. Bless your heart. LOL!
