The Packers might feel like they let one get away after coming close in Kansas City on Thursday night. The Packers allowed penalties in the Red Zone to stop a promising drive that reached KC’s ½ yard line. Fans that want to start in on the refs early in the 2022 season can point to an obvious hold by Kansas City’s Daurice Fountain on Packer Defensive back Micah Abernathy that was not called on the Chiefs second touchdown. Two penalties that potentially impacted the final score of this meaningless game.
In the second half the Packers had some good plays but could not string together a scoring drive. Self inflicted penalties and poor execution repeatedly spoiled the final chance for the Packers to display some dominance this preseason.
While Jordan Love made some NFL throws, the end result was similar to his game last year against the Chiefs. An interception that didn’t need to be thrown, ineffective scrambling, and the occasional overthrow combined with some impressive lasers into tight coverage resulted in 10 points and an eventual loss. If you compared his passes from last year’s game you could see significant improvement, but his connections on the critical plays that needed to keep drives alive were too few and far between. While the interception was in the final seconds of the first half, he had Amari Rodgers open for the first down and time for potentially three more plays. That ball should not have been thrown.

The bad included Rico Gafford’s second huge TD failure of the preseason. Against SF, Gafford tripped on his own feet responding to a 49er wide receiver making a simple head fake. Thursday night he failed to pick up the downfield receiver allowing Chief’s tight end Matt Bushman to have his first of two touchdown catches. Bushman isn’t even listed on the KC depth chart at tight end. If Bushman gets cut before Tuesday he may had landed himself a job in Green Bay. While the Packer’s coaches expressed faith in tight end Tyler Davis, his blocking struggles almost caused a blocked field goal. He also failed on at least two running play blocks along with the field goal close call. Can his one catch allow him to suit up next week?
The good included a number of nice catches by Amari Rodgers, Toure, Winfree and Hyman, although Hyman’s best catch was reversed due to a penalty on Zach Tom. After Thursday night the Packers can’t think they can sneak Toure through on to the practice squad. He had too many good catches.
Unfortunately, the bad also included RB Dexter Williams. His failure to recognize a blitz in time led to a sack. That combined with his dropped pass earlier in the preseason could spell the second end for the former sixth round pick.
Many fans have been waiting for first round pick Devonte Wyatt to make a splash play in preseason. While he did made a nice spin move that cleared a lane to the QB on a pass play, he could not reach the QB before the pass was released. The defensive line splash play went instead to Jack Heflin who blew up a Kansas City 4th down running play.
Once again the bad included special team return and coverage units. No kickoff return made it to the 25 and the kickoff and punt coverage gave up big plays. How is Rich Bisaccia going to turn this Cinderella step child into a princess is beyond any guess.
While Kansas City played most of its starters to open the game, the Packers stuck to the LaFleur way, holding all non rookie starters out of the game. The starters will be well rested and mostly healthy for Minnesota in 10 days. Let’s hope they are ready to play.
They were clearly trying to improve Love’s completion percentage to start the game.
His first 6 passes were completions. But….they were dink and dunk, all near the line of scrimmage, some behind it.
Those passes and how far they traveled (not what the play netted were….
3 yards-Goodson
-3 yards – Goodson
-3 yards – Doubs
-1 yard – Goodson
-6 yards – Goodson
+ 7 yards – Winfree
Later..Love had some nice intermediate passes with nice footwork stepping into the passes with some velocity

“All those deep balls thrown by Love have been close” – John Kuhn
.
Well….if you don’t count two throws way overthrown, one thrown into the dirt way in front of the receiver, plus one thrown too far off the stretched out receivers fingertips clearly uncatchable.
Then yea Johnny…they were close.
************
Walker finally showed up this game finally with 3 solo tackles, one pushing Hartman out of bounds but not until he gained the first down.
.
Haven’t seen Wyatt much, not sure if he suited up this pre-season.

Lets revisit our next Franchise QB…..

This year with essentially the starting OL and a legitimate NFL WR in Romeo Dobbs along with another year in the system you can see real progress.

That’s right Kevin. Jordan Love was drafted to be a franchise QB. You don’t spend a first and a fourth round pick on a career backup.

Don’t be surprised if Jordan Love isn’t your week one starter

If your just going to look at the stat line for Jordan Love, then you might as well anoint Danny Etling the Packers next franchise QB.
.
Or you could just anoint Jordan Love to being the Packers next Franchise QB. But that might sound just as idiotic.

“The defensive line splash play went instead to Jack Heflin who blew up a Kansas City 4th down running play.”
.
That was, without a doubt, a savage tackle for loss, but truth be told, it was a missed assignment by the Chiefs line, Heflin came in untouched.
What a difference 10 months make. Ten months ago Jordan Love made his first NFL start at Arrowhead Stadium. Once again Andy Reid, with many of his starters playing, often blitzed Jordan Love. Only this time he adjusted, played with confidence, and threw dimes. His development continues. He’s starting to remind me of Justin Herbert. Both big, strong armed QB’s that throw a beautiful deep ball. In fact, there were those draft pundits who said Love would go before Herbert. But Herbert was always the more NFL ready prospect. And he’s just as good a prospect as media darlings Trey Lance and Justin Fields. That’s the type of ceiling he’s got. If he can get there, we’ve got something special. All for the price of passing on Tee Higgins or Chase Claypool. A risk worth taking. Thanks Brian Gutekunst. Toure makes the team, Winfree does not. At this point Winfree is what he is, a marginal NFL player. I don’t see us keeping seven WR’s. But I’d keep both backs, Taylor and Goodson until Hill comes off IR. Caleb Jones has to make the 53. He won’t clear wavers. He looks to be the next Yosh Nijman. Not sure Zac Tom can play tackle. He’s too small and his arms too short. Center may be his best position. Sean Rhyan looks the part but plays like Jason Spriggs. On defense, most of those guys will be gone next week.
On every pass except one, Love telegraphed his passes.
He doesn’t look over the field, or look off defenders,
even when there is no pass rush.
Good d-backs will see this and play Love accordingly.
.
Danny Etling looked better last night.
Jack Heflin blew up nothing. No one blocked him. He gets cut in favor of Slayton. Someone missed an assignment. Danny Etling will be unemployed just like Kurt Benkert next Tuesday. And no one will pick him up. Guess he didn’t look that good. Andy Reid played starters, while most of Matt LaFleur’s starters didn’t play. Jordan Love threw short passes not to increase his completion percentage but because he was being blitzed and had to get the ball out quickly to avoid being sacked. What’s the best way to counter a blitz? Run the ball, which is exactly what the Packers did effectively. Once they started running the ball, the Chiefs had to back off on the blitz which allowed Jordan Love to step into his throws and make his reads. He had two scoring drives in the first half playing against the Chiefs starters. Something he didn’t do 10 months ago. If you girls want to pretend he’s not the future, by all means live in denial, but he’s not getting traded.
All the Chiefs starters played?
.
The whole first half?
.
You go ahead and keep sugar coating Jordan Love until he’s the next Packers Franchise QB Nancy…..Never stop entertaining me!!
.
Hey people, listen to me!!!
Jordan Love was involved in two scoring drives in pre-season!!
Who does that?!?!
Are you freaking kidding me?!?!
I told you guys he’s a Franchise QB!!!
.
LOL….Oh Tommi….you try and try and try and…..
.
Don’t give up!!!
I understand your scared Kevin. Jordan Love represents a future without your boyfriend. A future that you refuse to face. It’s why you and the girls desperately want him traded so badly. It’s why you’re hoping he fails. But that doesn’t change the fact the future is coming. And it could be here as soon as next season. And if you’re a team that refuses to prepare for the future then you’re a team like the New Orlean Saints. You’re a team with Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston as your QB. Which is to say you have no future at all. I don’t give two shits about Jordan Love’s passer rating, completion percentage, or even his interceptions. I expect my young, talented, inexperienced QB to make mistakes. But I also expect to see growth. What I expect to see is progress. What I’m seeing Kevin is something you can’t see. A young, talented QB starting to put it all together. I’m seeing the game start to slow down for him. I saw my young, talented QB make throws and reads he didn’t make 10 months ago at Arrowhead stadium. That’s real tangible progress. How much more he can develop remains to be seen, but I like what I’m seeing. The needle is pointing up. So go be a Debbie Downer and lament about how much better we’d with Kurt Benkert. It’s that time of year again when team captains are selected. How exciting that must be for you!
All the Chiefs starters played? (whatever you say snapperhead)
.
The whole first half? (yep, if you say so Goober))
.
You go ahead and keep sugar coating Jordan Love until he’s the next Packers Franchise QB Nancy…..Never stop entertaining me!!

I don’t want Love traded Scooter, i don’t care, the damage is done.
.
What i wanted was for Gute to draft players that could actually play and help get us into the Super Bowl when the Packers were on the cusp.
.
If Gute wanted to trade up in 2020…fine…trade up and snatch Justin Jefferson, someone who could have actually helped, we didn’t need a player just to watch the game from the bench….and still is.
.
The same way we didn’t need the receiver room ignored and filled with the likes of Funchess, St. Brown, and that other flunkie Gute drafted J’mon Moore. Plus those 3rd round wasted picks like Rodgers, Dequara, and Sterberger.
.
If you want to pretend Lazard, Watson, or Watkins is a number 1…Knock yourself out. The rest of us men deal with reality.
.
Now run upstairs and go get a glass of milk and a cookie, you’ll feel better.
If you don’t want Love traded, then why keep bringing it up? First, you said a 5th round pick while Ferris said he’s worth nothing, then after his last preseason game against the Saints you mentioned a 3rd round pick. By your own estimation his preseason performance has increased his value. This time last year, your girlfriend Erin was in full drama queen mode. No one could have predicted he’d be back this year. And if that would have happened and he demanded a trade, who would be the QB without Jordan Love on the roster? Street FA Kurt Benkert? Danny Etling? Please! In his one start last year Tim Boyle was 6-15 for 71 yards. He got benched for the equally inept David Blough. We’d be the New Orleans Saints right now. A team with no QB. Instead Aaron Rodgers got scared. He decided not to face Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Derek Carr twice a season. It’s much easier to “own” the Bears and Lions while he just about splits with the very average Kirk Cousins. Essentially all that drama for nothing. Little Erin played it safe. You can bitch all you want about Jordan Love but he won’t be traded. You can bitch all you want about Brian Gutekunst. He’s still going to get a contract extension because he’s earned one. Now let me make a bold prediction. Because Davante Wyatt didn’t put up preseason stats and will start the season behind Jarran Reed on the depth chart, PF4L will quickly proclaim him a bust. Just like he did with Rashan Gary. You might want to give this one some time before you start running your mouth. I know, you can’t help yourself…..
Snapperhead?!? LMAO! Is that your mom with or without her teeth? I know you like to keep it all in the family……
“This pre-season is going to be HUGE for Jordan Love” – Killer Tommi

“We did what was in the best interest of the Green Bay Packers” – Gute
.
In Gute We Trust
We don’t get to see the practices and off field work so it is always hard to say who may be showing more that puts that certain player over the top of another. I do think Gute and LaFleur may look at the receiver position/numbers different than we may. To me Amari Rodgers is not looked at as a receiver. Rodgers is a Tyler Ervin with maybe some better route running/catching ability. Tyler was listed as a RB and would run a lot of the jet motion stuff. Rodgers will be on the team for that ability more than as a receiver. I think the Packers will keep 6 receivers and a Rodgers.
To me the jet motion action if working properly can put some stresses on a defense that opens inside runs and helps offensive tackles in pass pro by causing hesitation from the edge defenders. I believe LaFleur wants certain numbers at certain positions such as tight end and RB. I also think LaFleur wants a jet motion type guy to help his team/offense.
Kevin, you wouldn’t know NFL talent if it were to bite you on your big, fat, Wisconsin ass. In 3 preseason games both Samori Toure and Romeo Doubs, as promising as the are, dropped 3 to 4 passes each. Likewise marginal players Tyler Davis and Juwann Winfree also dropped multiple passes. While I saw grow and progress, you saw only stat lines. By your own admission you couldn’t be bothered to even watch the games. I saw what I needed to see. A promising, talented, young QB make strides and show real improvement. While you equate camp arm Danny Etling in 4th quarter garbage time against no one who’ll actually make an NFL roster, as equal to the first half with Jordan Love facing the Chiefs starting lineup. Go play with yourself and your stats and listen to little Erin on Joe Rogan then come back and tell us how wise and sage he is. And how many times you pissed yourself during the podcast because you love him so much. Let Brian Gutekunst make personnel decisions. He’s got this….
Why is it…..
That other teams QB’s have outstanding outings against the Packers, while i keep hearing how good this Packer defense is in preseason.
In related, how come our “high ceiling” future franchise 1st round golden boy QB can’t have a truly impressive outing, even in pre season.
Yes, some people gloat about the improvement in Loves 3rd season. But what i see is that the bar is set pretty low.
From what i can tell, if he doesn’t look like a total trainwreck….people think he’s shown improvement and grown. Like wtf….really?
Maybe i’m just blind and i cant see all the talent Love has, maybe i’m off somewhere and i missed all his flash plays.
From what i see, people think if he throws a ball with velocity, he’s improved, or if he hits a receiver in stride, he’s improved.
Or if he moves his feet right to evade pressure or a sack…he’s improved.
Well, to me, again….that’s setting the bar pretty low for a 3rd year 1st round QB if that’s the best you got..
If MLF won’t say it anymore, i will. Love has a ways to go, and frankly, i don’t see him getting there.
The Packers didn’t pay, and keep Rodgers around because they have so much faith in Love.
I mean…read between the lines.
.
Here’s what opposing QB’s did against the Packers defense in pre season.
Shane Buechele 2 TD’s..0 picks…135.9 passer rating (undrafted)
Nate Sudfeld….1 TD….0 picks…132.0 passer rating (6th round)
Trey Lance…..1 TD….0 picks…158.3 passer rating (1st round)
Brock Purdy ….1TD….0 picks…108.3 passer rating (7th round Mr. Irrelevant)
.
Pre-season Green Bay defensive interceptions = 1
Jordan Love interceptions = 4..Passer rating, 55.4 passer rating and completion percentage.
.
But…he’s gotten better? Better than what/who?
.
Yes, i know Princess…stats mean nothing.
Other than what a players done on the field.
But, But…Love has potential!!
.
Lets exam these statements from our resident viking fan…”NFL stats are for losers, they mean nothing, real men don’t talk about stats” – Princess
YET…..EVERY game, every pre game, every blog, every tv sports talk show, every radio sports talk show. They all constantly talk about and bring up, team and player stats.

Conclusion?….Every one else is a loser, except for Princess Tommi.
You are a F’ing. epic moron viking fan, pretending to be a Packer fan Tom M..
How sad is that.

If the owner of this site had a set, he would tell us those 2 characters come from the same IP Addy. Like i asked him about well over a year ago…twice..
Got nothing.
Saying a QB is good does not make it so. It also does not make him a franchise QB. We are all about to see that in San Francisco this season. They talk Lance up but it does not make it true. Maybe talk about the players that will be on the field rather than a first round pick that will be on the bench…again.
The answer to your question is painfully obvious Kevin. Matt LaFleur refuses to play starters in meaningless preseason games. In 2020, there were no preseason games. The Packers went 13-3 that year. The 17 game regular season is a grind, it’s a marathon. No one but you will ever remember preseason stats. Other than a few series with Myers and Runyan, Jordan Love played with no starters on the OL if Bakhtiari and Jenkins return for the opener. And certainly no starters at the skilled position. There were three goals for the preseason and not one of them had anything to with meaningless stats or wins. The were the following: determine Jordan Loves progress, establish depth among the OL and WR group, and stay healthy. All three goals were accomplished. As for Jordan Love specifically, I have no idea how good he’ll and you don’t either. What we do know is playing with rookies and backups he showed growth and progress. I expect mistakes when he hasn’t played much since college. I see reason for optimism while you see Jordan Love as a threat. And therefore refuse to acknowledge anything positive.
Tom M 2 mins ago
The answer to your question is painfully obvious Kevin. Matt LaFleur refuses to play starters in meaningless preseason games.
.
Only MLF? Most of all the NFL teams don’t play their starters Einstein. Learn something.
You see any major starters from the Chiefs rb’s, receivers, defense, QB?
But yea, that MUST be why Love looks like shit.
Maybe…that’s why Love threw that stupid ass interception at the very end of the 2nd quarter to rookie Bryan Cook, because the Chiefs had some starters on the 0 line playing in the 1st quarter.
.
Jordan Loves a threat?..lol, of what? Someone who may someday post a passer rating of over 80?
A threat of someone who may someday throw more TD’s than interceptions?
Oh I know. lol…you said that Rodgers was worried that Love is going to take his job and that Rodgers viewed Love….as a threat….lol
The only threat Love was, is making Gute look like an idiot for drafting him, like most people thought after he picked him.
But that’s more reality, than a threat.
.
He was drafted as a wasted resource whose contribution has been sitting on the bench instead of putting new talent on the field, where it was needed. Because of the Love pick, we don’t have two players who could have helped the Packers on the field since 2020.
Maybe it’s time you figured that out…lol
.
What’s next Scooter, are you going to remind us again how “oft injured” Rodgers is, so we need Love?
Yea, readers here remember you saying that.
