Game Day: Pittsburgh Steelers Visit Packers at Lambeau Field

Which Aaron Rodgers will we get today, folks? Creepy looking guy at the liquor store who just needs a dollar from week one or will we get the superstar QB from last week’s game against San Francisco? Lucky for us, there is an entire squad of players that tend to be a bit more predictable.

Rodgers’ so-called last dance is starting be marred a bit by injury reports so far:

Inactives list

CB Kevin King
LB Krys Barnes
LB La’Darius Hamilton
OL Elgton Jenkins

It was reported by ESPN that Marquez Vades-Scantling was placed on the short-term injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. He will be away for at least a few weeks. MVS is the deep threat that Rodgers seems to have better and better chemistry with lately. Just the implication alone that he might get open puts pressure on the rest of the defense and he will be missed. He’s come a long way since I dissed him a couple years ago.

Also, we got more bad news this week on the Za’Darius Smith situation. While there is still some hope we will see his return this season, the injury seems to be worse than initially thought.

Game Info

Who: Packers (2-1) vs. Steelers (1-2)
When: 3:25pm – Central Time
Where: Lambeau Field
TV: NFL – CBS
Radio: WTMJ Live Stream

Something else of note about today’s game is the massive attendance to be expected by alumni:

What is a 37 year old tight ends vertical?
    .
I saw Lewis shoes about 1-2 inches off the ground when he tried to high point Rodgers pass.
    .
Could we end our love affair with Grandpa Lewis and spend that 4 million on someone else.

Fun Fact: Randall Cobb had 2 TD passes in this one game against the Steelers
    .
He had 2 TD passes total, in his last season with the Packers

Lets give Gute credit for bringing Cobb back on board.

Let’s not kid ourselves. A washed up Rapelsburger gifted us that game. A win is a win, but Sullivan got utterly burned on two easy touchdowns that were overthrown. It’s going to be tough stretch without Jaire – AC joint injuries vary, could be ten days or ten weeks.

    .

You can be happy about a win but still be realistic. This team had holes before we lost our star edge rusher and star cornerback. If they can pull off wins over the Cardinals and the Chiefs, I’ll eat my words. Let’s see what they’re really made of.

They weren’t going to beat the chiefs with Alexander and z playing. No chance…they barely beat them (or maybe even lost not sure I remember 100%) with Matt Moore as the qb.

I agree. The Packers wins came against two bad teams and one average team. They got clobbered by another average team. The Packers have not played a team that has a winning record right now. The Packers could be a better team, but they are now really, really injured and I suspect the first team with a good QB will lay 50 points on them.

I think the physical play of the Packers had come from their new look, makeshift o-line. A strange turn of events to be sure but a welcome one.

I don’t think we can afford too many more injuries.
I’m not sure why Z Man needs back surgery now, but not months ago?
Well….this could be the last we see of him…but he’s lottery rich now..he’ll be ok.
This injury thing reminds me of Martellus Bennet…right or wrong.
    .
Gary gets what may be a full season to show you what you get with the 12th pick.
Give him his due on that sack, it was 100% earned, very active today, great effort.
    Preston Smith?….Did he play?

Dean makes a good point about Campbell….Although i view Campbell overall as average, that is an upgrade from what we’re used to.
    .
Cobb showed up nice, moving the chains multiple times on 3rd down.
Two TD passes and he even had a pass defended (cough).
(You gotta figure…Adams was none too happy about that stunt.)

For whatever reason…Brady did not look sharp tonight.
    .
Why is Jim McMahon signing autographs.
Isn’t it bad enough somebody thought it would be a good idea to sign him?
    Signing autographs?
The Packers paid him, gave him a ring….
    For what?….What did he do?
Plus…who would want his autograph in Green Bay anyway?

I mean, in reference to Brady, the coach across from him is known for his defensive prowess, and he happened to be Brady’s coach for like 20 years. If anyone knows pressure packages/defensive looks that can throw him off of his game, it is Belichick.
      ….
As for McMahon, probably a weak attempt to troll bears fans. McMahon probably doesn’t have to many years left of being mostly in control of his faculties, and probably will be shitting in a diaper soon.

        .
Some people may not know, or forgot that when the Packers went to the White House to visit Clinton after winning the SB, McMahon was there, wearing his bear jersey.
He tried to justify it by saying the bears didn’t get to go to the White House in 1985.
        .
So fucking what…..he went there representing the Packers.

Gotta say, while Stokes is being beat more than I would like, the reality is he is a rookie, and SHOULD only get better. At least he is right in the receivers hip pocket most of the time, more than can be said of who he is replacing. It was refreshing to see the team finally have a good game on the ground for the first time this season. Of course offensive line injuries have played a role, as continuity is an important factor. But still, promising, especially against a unit that has been pretty good against the run.
    ….
Too bad to see Roethlisberger decline like he has. Just goes to show that Brady is an exception to the rule, and there is zero guarantee that Rodgers will be effective into his 40s. It isn’t just the mobility, he (Big Ben) has lost a lot of his deep ball accuracy and touch. Saw signs of it last year too.

I agree with others that a QB’s legs are the first to go.
      I’d imagine accuracy is next.
My thoughts watching Brady last night was that hey…
….maybe Father Time is catching up to him.
He was off, badly on some throws.
But it was “just one game” and we know what happens when we write off some QB’s too soon.
They end up winning MVP’s or Super Bowls..

Roethlisberger isn’t the only one to miss on the deep ball. Rodgers struggles with deep routes to MVS. And he’ll miss on the intermediate route as well. He missed on a TD to Lazard yesterday. If you look it’s there. If you hero worship you’ll ignore it or make excuses for it. The Steelers lived in fear of upsetting Big Ben by not planning for the future and drafting a QB. Now they’ve set the organization back at least 2-3 years minimum. And in a division with Jackson, Mayfield, and Burrows, the Steelers could be down for a decade. But hey, at least they’ve got TJ Watt. The 49ers drafted Trey Lance because Jimmy G can’t win the big game. The Rams traded Jared Goff because he can’t win the big game. The Packers drafted Love because Rodgers can’t win the big game. Sometimes you have to make things uncomfortable for these guys for the good of the organization. I know that’s a concept that will be difficult for most to understand.

Rodgers did miss on a few throws to be sure, but he also threaded the needle on a couple others, completing a couple passes that the majority of NFL QBs can’t make. They kind of average out. I am not terribly concerned about him missing a few throws, although in tight games that can be the difference

You confuse hate for accountability. While you have your nose firmly up Aaron Rodgers ass and only smell flowers. I hold him accountable for his selfish, diva behavior. If you claim your Micheal Jordan then you damn well better play like him. And I don’t see the SB trophies. But you know who’s got them? Tom Brady. You don’t hear Tom saying he’s Micheal Jordan. The truly great players don’t talk about how great they are. They just go out and get it done. Rodgers hasn’t gotten it done since 2010. And so far, 2021 will be more of the same.

We’re now 3-0 without our best pass rusher Za’Darius Smith. We’re 6-0 without Davante Adams over the last two years. We’re 4-2 while on our third string LT. 100 million dollar man and “Packer SB winner” TJ Watt did virtually nothing yesterday. You pay these non QB guys big money at your own risk. Almost all can be replaced or schemed around. Now, having said that, it’s looking like King will have to start for Alexander this week. Rodgers better put up 50 just to keep us in the game. Rodgers completed 20 passes. Cobb and Adams accounted for over half of them. Aaron Rodgers isn’t running Matt LaFleur’s offense. But rather some bastardized version of it. Basically it’s just pitch and catch with his buddies and ignoring Tonyan and Lazard. Rodgers overthrew Lazard in the end zone for an easy TD. And he should have been intercepted on at least one of his forced throws to Cobb. He hasn’t abandoned the running game however. AJ Dillion would have had over a 100 yards rushing had he not had to split carries with Aaron Jones. After doing virtually nothing the first 3 games, 31 yr old Randall Cobb had a big game. Expecting him to sustain that kind of production isn’t realistic. Big Ben embarrassed himself missing open receiver after open receiver. Joe Burrow will make no such mistakes this week. Bitch all you want about Joe Barry. But anyone who puts Yiadom, Burks, Rivers, and Gavin on the field at the same time and still wins is showing me something.

I do think it’s an issue that Rodgers is zeroing in on a couple of receivers play after play. I remember back in the day when it seemed like every game he would complete passes to at least 7 different players every game. Hell, some games it was 11 different players. Hell he was completing pass to fucking Korey Hall. You can’t tell me that the skill position players in this offensive scheme are that much worse than the skill position players in McCarthy’s scheme are decade ago. It’s working for now, but against good playoff teams that will scheme around covering Adams, that it will be ok.

If I remember correctly it was Corey Hall that caught Rodgers first TD pass against the Vikings at home in Aaron Rodgers first start. A lifetime ago. At this point, I think Matt LaFleur has thrown in the towel in terms of a game plan. Aaron Rodgers is going to do whatever the hell he wants and that’s throw to Adams and Cobb. I expect this season to end like the last 10. With a playoff loss.

I think Tommi’s on to something.
      .
The Packers won 3 games already this season without Z Smith.
      .
They beat the 0-4 Detroit Lions.
      They beat the 1-3 Steelers
      They beat the 2-2 49ers
They are undefeated against teams with a combined 3-9 record.
If that doesn’t put NFL teams on notice…i don’t know what will.
      .
They got hammered (i mean hammered) by the 2-2 Saints, with a injured(?) Z Smith who didn’t start.
      .
Tommi is a thinking mans, man.
Why would we need a guy who only had 26 sacks the last 2 seasons and 5 forced fumbles and 10 stuffed runs?
Not to mention all the QB hits and hurries?
      .
The boys we got can make up for that…Yes Sir!!
Gary already has 1.5 sacks this season. Tied for 59th
Sure he doesn’t have any forced fumbles in his NFL career, but….fingers crossed right?
      .
Preston Smith already has 1 sack this season, Tied for 69th.
He even had a forced fumble back in 2019.

So as you can see…Tommi is correct…AGAIN. The Packers are 3-0 without him….they don’t even need him!!
      .
You gotta get up pretty early to get one over on Tommi.

There ya go talking stats again as if that really matters to anyone but you. Wins and losses are what it’s all about and we’re 3-1. I make no apologies for the schedule and neither do the Packers. They just play the games. The lowly Lions gave this team all it could handle until midway thru the third quarter. And without some last minute heroics we don’t beat the 49ers. Rodgers had two drives in the red zone against the Steelers where he couldn’t get TD’s and had to settle for FG’s keeping Pittsburgh in the game until the end. Besides, you were talking smack after the 49er win. Talking about how beating the Rams or the Bucs was just a formality. All because Rodgers and Adams bullied a 5th round rookie corner all night. Here’s what I see. Aaron Rodgers was a better QB last year when he actually ran Matt LaFleur’s offense. He utilized Robert Tonyan and he spread the ball around more. That, along with a running game, kept defenses guessing. He had perhaps his best statistical season ultimately winning the MVP and taking us to the NFCC game. Now, Rodgers has an agenda. Get the ball to his “Scottie Pippin” who’s in a contract year, as well as the player he traded for, Randall Cobb. Basically he’s playing pitch and catch with his buddies. A good DC will take much of that away. In fact, Rodgers should have been intercepted yesterday. And Rodgers goes into his shell once he throws an INT. He’s a completely different QB. Based on what I’m seeing, I see trouble ahead. And it has nothing to do with Za’Darius Smith, or Eric Stokes, or even Kevin King.

    Well, i got news….
    .
With Alexander out it looks like Joe Barry better damn well be able to scheme himself some pass rush, because the field may be wide open.
    .
With our lack of pass rush this season, and our shutdown corner out, teams may not even bother running the ball against us.
    .
These will be the weeks that Gute reflects…and wishes he had upgraded his corner depth, instead of sticking with the flunky’s he has.
    .
You get too comfortable? You think your ok at a position? One injured player is all it takes for that..”oh shit!” feeling in your gut.

Matt LaFleur I’m sure can’t wait for this season to be over. When next season he’ll have a QB that actually runs his offense. You think Terry Bradshaw will let Rodgers wear his old number in Pittsburgh next year? After Bradshaw calling Rodgers “weak” in the offseason I’m guessing not.
