Yesterday, coach Matt LaFleur informed us that LB Za’Darius Smith will be placed on injured reserve.

It goes without saying that this is a huge blow to the team and Rodgers’ so-called last dance. Za’Darius Smith, along with Preston Smith, were a hot duo for the team the past couple of seasons. Between the two, Za’Darius seemed to be at his best last season and his absence will certainly be felt on the defensive side of the ball.
Both players were the result of a rare and expensive free agent shopping spree by the team. The acquisitions paid off in the 2019 season, and lesser so in the 2020 season.
Smith’s addition to the IR is a huge boon for upcoming opponent Detroit Lions. Following an embarrassing loss to the Saints, the Packers are expected to take it out on their underdog cohort.
Hey, how’s that Z Smith trade looking PF4L? Looks like your wrong again. What a surprise! But, but, PF4L said Z Smith was going to be traded just like Josh Jackson! I’m going to let you in on a little secret. A 30 yr old OLB with a bad back and a bad contract isn’t a tradable commodity. He has no trade value. Now let me explain why Josh Jackson was traded. Josh Jackson was a mistake and was a marginal player. He was exchanged for another mistake who’s also a marginal player, Isaac Yiadom. Want another example? Damarious Randall was also a marginal player. He was exchanged for another marginal player DeShone Kizer. All four players were/are on their rookie contracts so there were no cap ramifications. Which is why you rarely see veteran players traded. The cap won’t allow it. That’s basic GM 101 but I can explain it again if you struggling to comprehend PF4L. I’m here to help…..
Tom is sooooooooo smart. Wow. For the last time when you tell someone YOU’RE wrong trying to be a big man…please use the proper form of the word. So in this case as usual YOU’RE proving YOU’RE an idiot. See when you say YOU ARE that is YOU’RE. That’s basic 5th grade 101 proper word forms. I can explain it again if YOU’RE struggling to comprehend.
Why, thank you Ferris. I didn’t know I was in the presence of an English professor! I’m sure such knowledge serves you well in the food service industry! And yes, PF4L, when a player is cut he becomes a FA! And Z Smith will be cut. You can bet your unemployment check on that. But I cover all this in my online class: NFL GM 101. Basic GM skills for the mentally challenged. Where I cover everything from how to tell a camp arm from a franchise QB. To what happens when you cut a player and he clears wavers. If you said, “ becomes a free agent”, then I see a star pupil! These classes fill up quickly, so you and Ferris sign up now! And in a few short weeks you two can be making intelligent posts! Ok, I’m not making any promises on that last part.

Time for Gary to prove the doubters wrong…hopefully
.
September 17, 2021 at 01:18 pm
Yes if he doesn’t prove much then we’ll be in some trouble the next 2 weeks and also Gute will have some answering to do
.
September 17, 2021 at 01:17 pm
I guess we’ll see if Gary is worth the 12th pick. No more “draft and develop” nonsense, just buckle it up and play and let everybody see what you got.
.
September 18, 2021 at 08:04 am
It’s not the injury to his back, that may or may not exist, it’s what is in his head, or not, that I think may be the reason.

Why did he play with a bad back and limited practice ? < The million dollar question. – PF4L
.
PF4L
You have Gary, the 12th pick who you drafted as an edge rusher, in his 3rd year. Even coming off the bench, why play Z.Smith?
.
Smith had 1 team practice all training camp, missed 3 weeks, then has 2 days of individual practice game week, and on Friday, DNP…then you play him?
.
Fast forward a couple days…MLF announce Smith is going on IR. Citing…the fact you want to play it safe with him?
A little late?…lol…Again…that makes no absolutely no sense after you played him against the Saints.
When he did play, he looked fine.
Watch the way he played, especially when he sacked Winston and how quick he got up…tell me how injured he looked.
.
On it's face these recent actions are curious at best, I tend think there is more to this story.
.
Despite any of that, it's about GD time we finally see Gary start and play a full game in his 3rd season with starter snaps.
If Gary doesn't get starter snaps with Smith out…then something is wrong in GaryLand.
Don’t say stupid shit and you won’t get embarrassed. Let me explain how this works. Z’Darius Smith has been a great FA signing for us. I recently read in the last two years he’s had 26 sacks and is third in the league in QB pressures during that time. You love your stats, so there ya go. The player comp I use is Clay Matthews but if you prefer TJ Watt, go right ahead. Smith has also been on the injury report half the time the last two years. Now, to his credit Z’Darius Smith hasn’t missed games because of it. But this is especially worrisome when a young player is constantly on the injury report. Players don’t generally get healthier as they age. If you recall, Clay Matthews was also constantly on the injury report with his hamstring. As he aged he began to miss games and his play suffered because of it. It’s no different now with Z’Darius Smith and his back. Smith is no longer a young, ascending player. He’s nearly 30 and has a significant back injury. He’s no longer worth 15 million per season. Rashan Gary was drafted and developed to be his replacement. The gap between Smith and Gary has been narrowing. The difference between the two is far less than their salaries would now indicate. In other words, Smith isn’t 10 million dollars better than Gary. When you factor all this information in, you come to the conclusion that Z’Darius Smith will be released and the Packers will take his 7 million cap hit. No one will trade for a 30 year old player with a bad back and pay him 15 million dollars. No one! When the same player will be released, clear wavers, and be signed for 4 million as a FA, if he can pass a physical.
It’s no different with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers counts a whopping 46 million against the cap next year. His replacement already on the roster. If he can’t deliver a SB, and after the first game it’s not looking promising, he’ll be traded. Because he’s a QB, he’ll have some trade value. Z’Darius Smith does not. Both Rodgers and Smith count a mind boggling 62 million against the cap next year. And a still significant 26 million in dead money even if they are not on the roster. Still the money saved can be used to sign young ascending players like Jaire Alexander and Elgton Jenkins. Neither Rodgers or Smith are young or ascending players. It’s time to cut the cord. You can’t let your emotions rule the day when your an NFL GM. Players have a short shelf life in the NFL. QB’s are longer than most. You have to know when to move on from veteran players. For Rodgers and Smith, that time has come. And the players know it. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure all this out. But you can’t be a fanboy either.
Tom M September 17, 2021
I know PF4L, let’s talk about Za’Darious Smith. Not in your wildest wet dream would anyone trade for a soon to be 30 yr old, oft injured, OLB and his 15 million dollar salary for next year.
************************************
OFT INJURED Za’Darius Smith ……Tommi says.
You did say oft injured, is that correct Tommi?
YEA…that’s interesting.
Lets see….Z Smith has missed 6 games out of 102 games in his career. Or….almost one game per season.
Or translated….he’s only been available for 95% of all his games.
.
Rodgers has missed 18 of 208 (starter/reg. season) games…or translated…. he’s only been available for 91.3% of his games
More “oft injured” than even Z Smith.
.
So…..If we follow “Tommi logic”…Not in your wildest wet dream would anyone trade for a 38 yr old, oft injured QB and his 27 million dollar salary.
.
NEWSFLASH: The last time either Z Smith or Rodgers has missed a game?…..was 2017. (oft injured?)
.
OFT INJURED —TOMMY LOGIC
******************
Go ahead Tommi…. tell us more what defines an oft injured player…..you da man!!….lol
Oh, hell! Both the Raiders and the Broncos won again today. Derek Carr and Teddy Bridgewater have looked good. They’re not going to be interested in the old bastard. Why trade for the old prick if you’ve got a younger, cheaper QB that’s playing better with no off-season drama and no demands for input on personnel decisions? Not to worry ladies, we’ll find some sucker to take him off our hands…
Tommi…You’re insight, wisdom and knowledge continue to impress.
GOOD CALL!
Why would they be interested in Rodgers, they won 2 games already…out of a 17 game season.
.
The season is already 11.7% over with.
Brilliant!!

FACT:: Chandler Jones had more sacks in 1 game last week, than Preston Smith had all of last season.
.
FACT: TJ Watt has 2 FF’s in 5 quarters of play this season. The same number of FF’s that Preston Smith has had since 2016.
Looks like the Panthers did the exact same thing to the Saints, as the Saints did to the Packers.
4 sacks….11 QB hits
Gee…maybe the O line does matter.

Jameis Winston…From hero, back to reality
Ok ladies, it put up or shut up tonight. If Michael Jordan lays another egg, we could conceivably go 0-4 to open the season. With the 49ers and the Steelers up next, those games will be dog fights. And we all know how tinker bell plays when challenged. And if we go 0-4, how long before Jordan Love starts? This is a huge game. It could start a domino effect that influences the outcome of the whole season. Buckle up buttercup!

Can’t wait to hear about your “catch rates” and pitch counts after the game! Could you let us know which team “captains” go out for the critical coin toss? It always makes for such riveting drama!
Drama?….Like your mother when she’s done wiping her chin and i don’t have the whole $20 and i have to owe her $10 and then she’s goes bat shit crazy about the power company cutting off her electricity.

The Green Bay Packers host the Detroit Lions tonight on MNF at 7:15 CST.
Look pork chop, Za’Darius Smith has bigger problems than not being elected a “captain” by his peers. Like how the hell is he going to salvage the season with a bad back? You don’t make anymore money being a captain. However if you can’t play due to injury that greatly reduces your ability to secure an NFL contract. But keep doing what you do PF4L. Focus on worthless information like team captains, catch rates, and pitch counts. The rest of us will focus on football.
Pork chop?
That hurts.

Whatever happened to sweetheart, and babycakes?

I’m sorry, but you’re getting very angry lately and it’s scaring me.

Lets keep this civil, no hard feelings and good luck on your GED tonight. I mean that, only because i still care.
.
I can’t just….turn off my feelings.
2 plays! 2 fucking plays and I’m already bitching about Kevin King. It took 1 to realize he was already a liability.
Kevin King does not belong on an NFL field.
Brian Gutekunst hits it out of the ballpark with the resigning of Kevin King and the BRILLIANT hire of Joe Barry . . . NOT! Fuck! Gutekunst cannot get a defensive front 7 to save his life . . . let alone assess players or coaches . . . Mark Murphy and Brian Gutekunst ARE THE PROBLEM in Green Bay! Not their QB1.
I’m on board with these Packer fans….
It’s not exactly the same thing, but it seems like the Packers/Z Smith drama has some Martellus Bennett stank to it.

After having the whole offseason to recover, Z’s back is so bad he can’t practice at all in training camp? In a year when he wanted a contract extension, he has a debilitating bad back? How does that improve his negotiating position? What are we to make of Z not voted a team captain? What are we to make of management placing him on IR?
I don’t know if we’ll ever know the truth, but, to me, something else is going on.

I think the public is being told one thing, while his teammates and management know the truth.
************************
It should be noted that Z Smith re-did his contract not once, but twice this off season for the Packers.
I’m not going to detail it all but Z Smith should consider a new agent.
Russ Ball opened the trap door and Smith’s agent walked right on in.
This is the one time that Tommi might accidently end up having it right on this call, but that’s yet to be seen.
Whatever the case, he’s gettin paid. But it should be for more than 2 good seasons. – PF4L
Lions 2 minute clock managment is just abysmal. They have 3 time outs. After a running play, they don’t call time out with 1:39 left. 1:39 left they take their time like it’s the middle of the quarter, another running play and they don’t call time out again!! Pass play to Hockenson complete and they finally call time out. There is now 24 seconds left.
.
They pissed away a minute and 15 seconds on 2 plays…..lol
.
That’s a team trying to learn how to win.
Up by 18pts, 9 minutes left, give the snaps to Love
Damn happy to see Campbell get an interception.
.
He worked his ass off tonight and was all over the field, he deserves it.
Smith could learn something from him about not half assing it..

Not happy that my fucking post don’t show up when i send them, that’s starting to be a fucking problem with me because the fucking problem is 5 months old and is being ignored.
.
I’ve brought this up before multiple times….fix the fucking thing or have the decency to tell me to that you give no fuck and that i should fuck off.
Yep, Campbell played a good game, and as the game went along, Stokes made plays on 2-4th down tries. We should be seeing Stokes starting at corner,,,,,,, soon. And, nnnnnoooooo, King isn’t going to make it at the inside (star) position either! Not enough speed and he can’t turn his hips quick enough either. Ya PF4L; I’m pissed too at the posting problem. Hi guys! Is it not interesting? This Tom M guy just appears as Rodgers’ stand off and gripe with the front office begins, and in his posts he (i) shits on ARod at every turn, (ii) plays defense for said front office, suggesting how smart their choices are and how Gute+LF+Love is the SB caliber triad.
**
In the post about Bulaga going back to IR, he comments along the lines of “I once questioned Gutekunst release of Bulaga and signing of Billy Turner, but he ended up being right”.
Side note, Bulaga has been a soldier to GB, much respect to him, but his injury is now someone else’s problem, although I’m glad he fleeced another team and he is well set for life.
**
In some other instances he mentions how now GB is poised for the crown, with great coach LaFleur (I mostly agree with LF being a very good one), with Jordan Love (may or may not be that good) at the helm, and a great team. That’s it, we are a dinasty in the making.
**
Tommy viciously attacks Rodgers, and to his credit, makes some valid points, like Rodgers not being at his greatest when the stakes are high. Nevertheless, he is a generational QB and 80% of the league would still have him rather than their current QB. Rodgers is not the type of fiery leader, which would be useful, but again, someone else on the team could play the “rah rah” in-your-face role. In years past I was rather critical towards Rodgers, until it became painfully obvious that Gute was deliberately NOT fixing issues, whiffing on high draft picks, and even going out of his way to show Rodgers who the man in charge was, team performance be damned. Heck, I still dislike Rodgers’ disdain for preseason, which meant he needed one or two games to get to full speed, though that was pretty much in line with the team feature of resting the starters in excess, then dropping a game or two and consequently worsening our seeding in the process.
**
I’ll expand on Gute’s deeds: letting Jordy Nelson go, where he could even have offered 5M instead of “veteran minimum for you and not one single more dime, sorry”. Never addressing the WR2 issue, which decent defenses exploit by doubling Adams. When we had the chance to get a good receiver, nope, he gets a QB whose rookie contract we will not benefit from. Before that he gets bench aficionado Rashan Gary, squandering the 12th pick on a player who may turn out good only by the time we have to pay him like an outside free agent. The defense is still messy, and Gute doubled down on once oft-injured-but-good Kevin King, who gradually turned into a liability even when healthy. Last year was clearly a win-now year, and instead he prepped for the future, at the expense of two picks which could have helped us (would have traded up a few spots for Brandon Ayuk). We even put a better fight against the Bucs than the Chiefs put in the SB, with Mahomes, who is the currently most talented QB, looking like an amateur (is he finished? does he suck now?).
This year Gute caved in a little to Rodgers, by getting a WR in the draft, signing Cobb, but it is too little too late. Besides, Cobb is … how old now? Defense is now going through a scheme transition, and even with Bellichick in charge, anyone can expect blown coverages and assignments, and they are probably not great to begin with. Short of a miracle, the window closed after last season.
**
Saying stuff like “well, we got Jaire, Elgton Jenkins, Savage” is meh. Yeah, all teams got some starters, you know? How many of the 21+ picks are now contributors that will turn to highly paid free agents?
**
Can the post-Rodgers Pack be halfway decent? Yes, probably still a playoff team, though we won’t need to experience heart-breaking championship losses, because we won’t make it that far. LaFleur can scheme nice games, even with no adjustments at midgame, he will beat middle-of-the-pack teams. Love may be a decent QB, and that’s what our scheme needs to scrape some playoff appearances (we made the playoffs, right? that means next year we have a shot a the SB, right? right? come to the stadium, fork over some cash and don’t ask silly questions ya dimwit fan). Without getting some difference making talent on defense, a good DC will only take it so far. But… by the time Rodgers is gone, and, like it or not, the present rift gone as well, I have the impression that Tom’s “damage control” paychecks will be over and he won’t bless this site with his presence any longer.
My feelings exactly . . . Tom M. may just be a salt for 1265. He couldn’t possibly believe the stupid bullshit that he pens . . . or could he? Perhaps his spelling and his poor sentence syntax suggest that a few cognitive frailties do abide in Tom M. . . .
I’m not sure a food card is considered a paycheck, and i’m not going to claim he’s under payroll for the Packers, could he be?
Sure, i guess so, but it’s a reach and i like more solid evidence than a hunch.
The only solid evidence i have is he obsesses about Rodgers, and he wants to stay here knowing he isn’t wanted.
Does that remind anyone of somebody we know with those traits?
.
Anyone think it’s odd that Killer only makes occasional sporadic appearances? Usually piggybacking off Tommi.
.
I’m not even convinced that theory is correct, but at least it’s based on something.
.
The only thing i’m convinced about is whoever Tommi is, he’s a P O S as far as being a human being.
******************************
I really enjoy reading and respect MJ’s post, always have. We agree on a lot of stuff, and i could debate with him for hours on the things we don’t agree on in a different time and place. Same goes with MMSUCKS.
.
Rodgers has some faults…no doubt, partly his personality, he comes off sometimes as too cool for school, and i think that rubs some people wrong.
I also think the Packers had no clue how to handle (use) Rodgers, off and on the field.
.
I think the Packers front office is almost clueless in how they handle players or former players.
One thing is for damn sure they seem to be insulting and disrespect players and not give one fuck.
When i say players, i’m talking about the productive warriors past and present who gave their all and represented the Packers proud. Most of all, they were highly productive.
They showed no class to a lot of these guys.
But free agents and a few draft picks (Nick Perry)….fuck…here’s the red carpet and the winning lottery ticket you didn’t earn, or partially earned.
.
From what MJ said about Nelson taking 5 million. I think he even might have taken 3.5 – 4 million, based on what he said and others said.
The man was a touchdown machine when he was shown the door. He was one season removed from leading the lead in TD’s. The first 5 games of 2017 he had 6 TD’s. what happened? Hundley…So what do the Packers do, Insult him.
Jordy Nelson, by all accounts was the salt of the earth, highly highly productive with Rodgers and a great Green Bay Packer.
.
The Packers parting gift to Nelson?…..insult him.
Haven’t had a #2 receiver since.
That is partially why…Murphy and Gute get very little respect from me
.
Here’s the deal for fans….Don’t like Rodgers…fine
Obsess about your hatred towards him?….Get a life, maybe some help.
Appreciate great QB skills….i guess not.
.
Packer fans are spoiled..3 decades of HOF QB’s.
.
Lets see what happens, in the coming years when we are without one.
This league is hard without a QB.
If you don’t have a great QB, you damn well better have a shutdown defense, or you are toast in this league.
Lets see what happens when the Packer brain trust runs out of a HOF QB they inherited.
Tommi has claimed Love a franchise QB…lol. Think he seriously believes that? Or is he just trolling for attention and reaction? I’ll go with the latter.
Maybe we wait for his 1st TD pass?….crazy thought right?
.
The fans are not the only ones spoiled.
The Packers front office might be even more spoiled…to the point where they are filled with arrogance in the NFL thinking they are above everyone, including their own players..
Thinking they stand on top of the NFL mountain.
.
I can recall one NFL executive being asked about the Packers success in recent decades. He mentioned having Favre and Rodgers for that many years doesn’t hurt…sarcastically…and he’s right.
.
Credit given to Ron and Ted for making that happen.
.
Murphy and Gute…. Don’t get too cocky….when Rodgers is gone, you’re on your own.
.
The standard has been set….
.
Like Ron and Ted before you….earn it.
Damn straight, especially the arrogance quote. If Rodgers, Adams and possibly other starters depart next year; we’ll see how arrogant the F.O. is! Me thinks there will be humble pie consumed.
Right on. Exactly PF4L. Thanks for the acknowledgment as well! Ditto to you!
Good post M.J. With all the snafus Gute has pulled in the draft, we now get word that another early round pick (Sternberger); will be released. I’m not surprised because he couldn’t beat out Tonyan or Daffney; who by the way were UDFA’s. Gute gets credit for a few picks that were good, but man, look at this roster and tell me if Keke, King, Madison (released), Lowry, Lancaster, Martin (released), and a few others have been Gute picks that can’t progress, and none of them are making a difference. They’re just warm bodies to fill holes. Add that all up and next year when the draft rolls around, the damn issues on the team will be the same as it was this past year; and the year before. I’ve mentioned before that rounds 1 thru 4 are your core team building picks in the draft, and maybe a few in the latter rounds, but continually trying to fix weaknesses on the team in the later rounds, well; that keeps you fishing for other teams cast offs, players who haven’t played in a year or 3, and hopscotching other teams practice squads. Also, drafting players in the earlier rounds and having them warming the bench for 2,3 or 4 years; is downright maddening! What’s even more maddening is, teams around the NFL; week after week; expose the weaknesses on the team and management refuses to accept the obvious! The win against the Lions, at least righted the ship——for now. But, with S.F, and Pittsburgh on the docket; we’ll see if this team is competitive against quality opposition.——-GO PACK1
With Z Smith sidelined, the true test of Rashan Gary may finally be here. I’ve been down about his pick and have been waiting to see more of his upside as there have been more frequent flashes of potential. Well, it is about time for a guy picked #12 in 2019.
–
Time to make the most of this opportunity.
You’re right Mitch, we need to see consistent progress from Gary, and now is the time to step up. After all, his contract will need to be considered in the not to distant future. Z. Smith is an aging player with a bad back and that is concerning. If Gary doesn’t step up now, then he might be filed under the growing list of failed early round picks by Gute. We’ve heard during OTAs’ and mini camp that Gary was a beast, hard worker,,,,,etc. Well, we need to see that on game days; for me to buy in.
Your bullshitting me right? You dumb-asses have a pretty high opinion of yourselves if you think Packer management gives two shits what a few clueless fans have to think. You really believe they’d send someone to troll you? LMFAO! You guys are so edgy, so avant-garde with your team captains and your catch rates! Who’s turn is it to bend over and take one for Aaron?
It’s funny when you call others….clueless.
