2021 NFL Draft – Day Two

The Packers opted yesterday to give a future boost to their secondary with their first round pick of UGA CB Eric Stokes. Stokes was named to the CBS Sports/247Sports All-America First Team and has a quickness that would make him useful both inside and outside. With current CBs Kevin King and Chandler Sullivan on one-year contracts, the future of the secondary is currently uncertain and this pick will help that situation with a fast player that ran a 4.25 40 during pro day at Georgia. This pick will be the third time drafting a defensive back in the first round during the last four years.

_____________

Nothing generates some attention like some Aaron Rodgers drama. Yesterday, there was some buzz around idea that the Packers would possibly trade QB Aaron Rodgers — some reports even indicated that Rodgers himself expressed his unwillingness to continue playing for the team. As usual, as far as we know, this is a bunch of bullshit.

GM Gutekunst was quoted by ESPN on the possibility of Rodgers being traded:

I’m not going to speak for Aaron, but I think obviously we have a really good team and I do think he’ll play for us again. And like I said, we’re going to work towards that and we’ve been working towards that on a number of different fronts. The value that he adds to our football is really immeasurable, you know what I mean? He brings so much to the table not only as a player but as a leader. He’s so important to his teammates, to his coaches, so yeah, that’s the goal.

I think we obviously have a very good football team here, we have a great organization, we’re very committed to him and I think as the lines of communication have been open, I’m just optimistic that that’s what’s best for the Green Bay Packers and I truly believe that’s what’s best for Aaron Rodgers, as well.

I give credit to the Packers for not drafting a player they intend to switch positions. They didn’t draft a safety with the intent of making him a corner. They didn’t draft a linemen with the intent of making him an end. Hurray!!

I agree. Maybe the days of mad scientist experimentalists; Capers and Pettine” are over.

        That was Ted’s deal.

Oh yes, I totally agree. The scientists are gone, but the virus is still in the building.

Boy, if that isn’t proof that they rely too much on #12, I don’t know what to say!!!! OOOOHHH; and they’re still trying to get it right. I’ll rent one of your sayings, PF4L—— BROKEN!

        1. PF4L April 30, 2021

No need…what’s mine is yours my man.

This post of the past ten years’ first round draft picks is a real eye opener. Not that we didn’t all know this already, but to see it put on paper (in text) makes you say holy shit.
      .
Not only that, five of those ten years the second pick also went to the defense.

      1. Mick May 1, 2021

Ya Cheese, and after all that draft capital spent, we still don’t have a D with an identity! WOW!

  3. Stiggy April 30, 2021

I don’t really care about the draft anymore. I just hope to see “mark murphy resigns” on the news ticker. I would give up a 2nd round pick to see that happen.

    1. PF4L April 30, 2021

That reminds me of a thought i had earlier Stigg.

Everyone that works at 1265, everyone on the Exec Comm. Everyone on the BOD’s.
Imagine…all those people…..then imagine their friends and family and anyone who knows them.
Asking them everyday….So what’s going on with Rodgers?…EVERYDAY…..all Day.
Maybe the stress of it all brings this to some conclusion…idk.
      .
I just don’t think Rodgers takes it this far, and doesn’t see it through.
Rodgers has never been a liar, bullshitter, someone who bluffs.
Rodgers isn’t a man who says things, just to say them.
He thinks things through carefully, then speaks his mind.
      .
I’m with some people who don’t think the Committee or the BOD’s has a spine.
Matter of fact, i think of them more as a social club.
Where some of them (of course) have business interest..
Murphy can pretend, and he may very well be in charge.
      But maybe…that’s the problem.
They have no true leader, like an owner would provide.
      I’ve said 2 or 3 years ago….
In a way our team public ownership is a blessing.
But it could also be a curse.
      .
I see the same arrogance, sans LaFluer as before
I’ve said countless times, you can’t just get rid of 60% of the disease.
The disease is still in the building.
      .
Most of the problems originated from Murphy, from his hands off, no accountability approach…to his…i’m in charge now, it stops with me.
Well, if he wants to proclaim the power, that he is the ultimate decision maker on everything Packers (it’s on record)
Then any Packer problems, are his problem.
      .
Frankly….i don’t give a F anymore, because i’m tired of years and years of “waiting” and i think maybe Rodgers is also.
      .
      BROKEN
      .
It could have been better, but as Packer fans, we had a good run.
      .
      Bart Starr – 16 years
      Brett Favre – 16 years
      Aaron Rodgers – 16 years

  4. Packtat87 April 30, 2021

As a Packers and Georgia fan, as well as an original Kevin King hater, this pick makes me happy. Anytime we can get King off the field longer is a plus. Now to focus on those lines.

  5. PF4L April 30, 2021

    I love to laugh!!

ALL Rodgers does is bitch and complain that why his teams don’t win!!
Brady works with what he has.” – anonymous
    .
I agree, he works with a front 7 that destroys, and multiple weapons and a GM who isn’t afraid to draft starters to win now.

    1. Mick May 1, 2021

      Amen to that!
