Although the Packers fell short of the Super Bowl last season after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, it was a highly successful season. After all, the Packers vaulted from two straight losing seasons to a 13-3 mark. The have carried that success over, starting the 2020 campaign at 4-0, one of only two undefeated teams remaining in the NFC.
The Packers schedule commenced with a divisional matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers were involved in a high scoring affair. The passing-receiving duo of Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams proved to be to much for the Vikings to handle. Adams caught 14 passes for 156 yards and two of Rodgers four touchdown tosses. Rodgers accumulated 364 yards in the air and despite being outscored by ten in the fourth, the Packers won, 43-34.
In week two against the Lions, the Packers proved they could score through though the running game as well. Aaron Jones ran through the Detroit defense for 168 yards and two scores. He also had a receiving touchdown from Rodgers, who finished with 240 yards passing. The Packers defense harassed Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford all day, intercepting him once and sacking him four times. The 42-21 final moved the Packers to 2-0.
On the road to face Drew Brees and the Saints was the toughest test for Packers of the early season. A stalemate through three quarters, the Packers went ahead on Mason Crosby field goal and secured the win with a touchdown pass from Rodgers to tight end Robert Tonyan. Allen Lazard was the go-to man with Davante Adams out, catching six balls for 145 yards. Both Brees and Rodgers threw three touchdown passes in the 37-30 decision.
Hosting the Falcons in week four, the defense hounded Matt Ryan, sacking him numerous times and held Atlanta to 16 points. Rodgers didn’t miss his stride, despite Adams still out of the lineup. Instead, Robert Tonyan was the recipient of a good portion passes, catching six for 98 yards and three touchdowns. The 30-16 triumph kept the Packers undefeated at 4-0.
Davante Adams leads the team with 17 catches and Robert Tonyan paces the club with five scores. Rodgers has been deadly accurate, hitting on over 70 percent of his passes for 1300 yards and 13 touchdowns, without an interception. Aaron Jones is averaging close to six yards per carry and averaging over 90 yards per game on the ground.
The offense is producing at a pace rarely seen in NFL history up to this point, become the only team with at least 30 points in each of their first four games. Coming off an early bye week, the Packers have upcoming road games against the 49ers, Texans, Buccaneers, and Colts with Jaguars and Vikings at home before the closing stretch of the season. A solid performance in this six-game stretch will position the Packers for a run at top seed in the NFC and chance for a Super Bowl appearance.
