Last night was the exciting Sunday Night Football game that everyone hoped for. Just like last season, the Packers offense proved that, while he certainly is an important part, WR Davante Adams is not a crutch that they need in order to win games. The rest of the receivers corps, along with tight ends, were more than enough for the Packers to move the ball — coming just three points shy of another 40-point game.
Aaron Rodgers is at the top of his game
Maybe it’s the lack of crowd noise, maybe it’s the fire lit under his ass from the acquisition of Jordan Love, maybe it’s not having mediocre race car driver Danica Patrick busting his balls all the time — I don’t know, but it’s very satisfying seeing someone as talented as he is play at his full potential. His performance last season was obviously enough to take the Packers to the NFC Championship, but he certainly was not playing under his full ability. He is currently PFF’s #1 ranked QB and rightfully so. To credit the line, Rodgers has only been sacked twice so far this season.
Allen Lazard continues to rise
Allen Lazard — wow. I just hope we hang on to this guy for a bit since he and Aaron Rodgers obviously work well together. Also, as coach LaFleur mentions in the video below, he plays an important role in both the passing game as well as the running game by being willing to throw himself into blocks and utilize his size to create holes. In the very first drive, Lazard was good for two first down catches and his productivity just continued from there the rest of the night.

Tight Ends
We know how to use them now, apparently. Between TEs Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, and Jace Sternberger, they produced 104-yards via 9 catches and two touchdowns. All that without overpaying someone like Jimmy Graham which we did the past couple of seasons. To be fair to Graham, he did have a great game with the Chicago Bears yesterday against the Falcons, but he never seemed to click well with the Packers offense under coach Mike McCarthy or Matt LaFleur; and he certainly did not earn his pay grade.
Tonyan managed 50-yards with 5 catches which was a career high.
Rodgers had this to say about the TEs following the game:
“Bobby had a number of plays where we got him sliding, coming across the formation, did a really nice job. Jace had the same opportunities for a couple of his plays. I wasn’t intentionally trying to throw (Sternberger) the ball … but you love to see it. To get him that first catch on the sly, catch and run, was great for everybody because we’re a family, we’re a tight-knit group. … Jace tonight had a couple really important plays for us and we’re really happy for him.”
Poor JK Scott
With the Packers offense off to such a great start this season, punter JK Scott has not seen much action these first three weeks and I am ok with that. The young punter from Alabama has only had 5 punts so far this season. Last season, he averaged around 4.8 punts per game. Let’s hope it stays this way the rest of the year.
