I think most of us are still in shock that the Green Bay Packers fired coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday. Not that he didn’t deserve it. Just because that’s not how they normally would do business.
United front and all. President, general manager and coach.
There’s still a united front at 1265. It just happens to be with the president and general manager and not the coach.
Both Mark Murphy and Brian Gutekunst met the press on Monday about the McCarthy firing.
Let’s go Murphy first.
The #Packers press conference with CEO Mark Murphy and GM Brian Gutekunst is on @nflnetwork now. Murphy: “In evaluating the season, I really felt change was needed and Mike’s tenure had run its course. We needed a new voice. It happens in our league.” Compares him to Andy Reid.

I guess that’s a nice way of saying Fat Mike will probably have success elsewhere. Do you know where elsewhere is? Cleveland. The Browns are the elsewhere of the NFL. It’s now where we ship all of our shit. That’s why they’re called the Browns, I guess.
#Packers GM Brian Gutekunst: We’ve had certain expectations and standard for a long time. They haven’t been met. To come out at home against a team we felt we should beat wasn’t acceptable for what we want around here.” Adds, “I don’t think we’ve played well most of the season."

Stating facts, that guy. Should have curb-stomped the Arizona Cardinals at home. And haven’t played well most of the season? Yeah, I think the record indicates that.
What else came out of this?
Did Aaron Rodgers and his short-arming, throwing-to-no-one tactics get McCarthy fired? These boys say no. They also say Rodgers will have no influence on who the team’s next coach will be.
Mark Murphy & Brian Gutekunst downplayed any friction between Aaron Rodgers & Mike McCarthy. Rodgers won’t be part of the process in the hiring of the new head coach and played NO part in the decision to fire McCarthy, per Murphy. #Packers pic.twitter.com/bhh0FTWuHS

But of course we are already hearing the name Jeff Tedford. Maybe it’s nothing, but Tedford was Rodgers’ coach at Cal. When they fired Tedford, Rodgers famously started saying Butte Community College as his school on those Monday Night Football intros. He hated Cal — kinda like he hates his family — until they hired his boy, former Wisconsin Badgers defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox in 2017.
Make no mistake. This is a fickle individual. He’s also one you paid $134 million to. While he may have no input in the coaching search, he’s going to have to be considered. Or at least his nature is.
But guess what? The narrative is no longer going to be: are the Green Bay Packers wasting Aaron Rodgers? Now the narrative has to be: is Aaron Rodgers too much of a damn prima donna?
You wanted it? You got it, honey!
This is Murphy’s legacy, not the damn Titletown Disneyland. He better do this right and he knows it. Waited too long to get here but i believe there is some time left if they get it right. But who?
AR a prma donna? Say it ain’t so!
If Murphy and Gutekunst each have a favorite new coach and can’t agree they should take Rodgers out to the G in the middle of Lambeau and flip him in the air. If he lands on his head, Murphy wins. If he lands on his tail, Gutekunst wins.
“kinda like he hates his family”
The shallow thinking, mouth breathers taking the high road, as usual.
It’s not shallow thinking it’s just observing. When you don’t call Mom and Dad to see if they are OK in the middle of a mega-disaster fire where they live or inquire with any other family members then, yeah, you hate them. Or are scared of them. Or are too full of hateful pettiness.
Or when he didn’t even go to the funeral of his favorite grandparent who called him before every game. Why? Because he’d run into family. Cowardice right there. Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, and Vikings, and family.
I guess you could argue that the writer does not know for sure if it was hatred on the part of Aaron Rodgers or cowardice. There is some wiggle room for uncertainty there within those two equally distasteful options.
That “high road” you speaketh of. You’ve never traveled it but I guess you heard rumor, huh?
Yep, the same time i heard a rumor that your crackhead mother was going to stop turning tricks. I don’t think that’s a bad idea, after 35 years she should call it a career.
I heard a rumor that THIS year is not the year of a Purple fingerprinted championship trophy. Not even a Division championship banner to hang. But hey Cousins looks good, enjoy that for at least 2 more years. Go watch the “miracle” play that won you nothing a few more times and jack off 4 times a day instead of your normal 3. Here’s a play to watch over and over while you are watching the playoffs from home.
Rodgers said in his press conference yesterday he was at home with his parents visiting when he heard the news. Gotta wonder how much of this is just fake news coming from his jealous brother.
Mission accomplished. Watch Rodgers make perfect short throws the rest of the season. He may miss a few in the next game just so no one is on to him….
A list of crap that can leave along with Mike McCarthy:
1.) Ron Zook
2.) Mason Crosby
3.) The incredibly lame 90’s music Lambeau field pipes in through the PA system
4.) The “Tundra Drum Corp” – kinda lame gimmick
5.) Sissy, overpaid smurf – Randall Cobb
6.) Fragile, overpaid Bryan Bulaga whom can’t finish a game
7.) Mason Crosby again
Don’t forget Nick Perry, Mark Murphy and Clay Matthews. I’m just happy Ha’Sean is not on this list anymore. Nice pickup Native Americans. Don’t send the porno music packing…it’s like a comfortable old shirt you just can’t get rid of it.
Clay is getting long in the tooth but still playing acceptable… otherwise I agree with you 100%
Expect this team to be one of the youngest in the league next season, if not the youngest.
Anyone listen to Aaron Rodgers interview today? He didnt sound like a guy that was intentionally trying to get McCarthy fired. Also, noticed he said something about “his folks in town for his birthday.”
Maybe you didn’t read the complete article, he hates his family.
His agent told him time to turn his image around so he called them. The beards were good but the rejection of family they hoped to keep out of the public eye and that didn’t work. So his agent made him call the family. Good for profits. Perfect opportune timing. Note how Rodgers naturally worked it into the conversation=
Interviewer: “What changes do you anticipate in the offense with Joe Philbin calling plays?”
AR: “I haven’t thought about that at all because my parents are in town for my birthday.”
Is the quarterback gonna get along with the new coach? Sound familiar Brett?
Jerry Jones errr Mark Murphy and the Green Bay Packers. That’s how its going to go up here now. The board of directors aint in charge of shit in GB anymore.
So I heard how this whole McCarthy termination thing went down and why it happened now instead of at the end of the season.
McCarthy was talking to members of the team and Murphy was near but not too near and it was a windy day. Murphy came to believe that McCarthy told the team, “Don’t lay an egg on Sunday.” McCarthy claims he said, “Good luck on Sunday.”
Either way, Murphy had heard enough. He’d dealt with that kind of attitude before or, at least, seen how McCarthy handled such a thing with a certain member of stadium maintenance staff back in 2009. Murphy knew McCarthy would have to be terminated.
After all, the precedent was set by McCarthy himself….
That was a good one. McCarthy is a douchebag PERIOD.

“McCarthy was talking to members of the team……”McCarthy claims he said, “Good luck on Sunday.”
I have mixed feelings about firing McCarthy. Such karma. But potential to really help the Packers. But also potential to remove excuses for Rodgers. But also this is Rodgers getting what he wants. Which I am automatically against.
Calling it here: Vic Fangio the new HC. He would command Rodgers’ respect. As much as anyone can he’s so arrogant.
And still, Mark Murphy can’t speak publicly worth a crap. Reading off of his notes and every other word being uhm, ah, uhm, y’know, uhm… You’d think with how image conscious this guy is about making the Packers look classy and professional, and being the president of an organization that deals with billions of dollars, that he would spend $50 on a public speaking course.
We all know Murphy said that he fired McCarthy. Oh, but of course he says today that Gutenkunst was “in on that decision.” Then Murph said that HE will be hiring a new coach, but Gutekunst will be “in on that decision.”
Is anyone allowed to make their own fucking decisions here anymore? Or is this just another muddy pond to aid in the lack of accountability already going on under GGT”s watch? One of the reporters asked Murph what if there are two coaching candidates and Gute likes one more and Murphy likes the other one more? “We’re not gonna get into hypotheticals” Murph says. Details about a very possible situation in a structure you orchestrated? Nah, details are for losers.
Another guy asked if they should have gotten rid of McCarthy last year instead of giving him a one year extension. “No. Aaron was injured.” So McCarthy can only win with Aaron Rodgers? Sounds like some coattail riding to me.
Murph was asked if the next coach was going to be offense minded and he started to talk about Philbin being a strong candidate. “Joe has been a head coach in this league. He’s had great succ…, he’s been part of our most successful teams.” LOL.
Y’kno, uh y’kno, y’kno, ahm y’kno, y’kno, um ahm ahh… Fuck this is terrible.
Eh. I am not worried about his public speaking to be honest. I can do my job perfectly fine and I am not good a public speaking.
I would say that Gutekunst should maybe lead pressers from here on out. Murphy can just be there to take questions
I see your point but as I stated, for someone who is so concerned with looking professional you would think he would take the small amount of time and effort it takes to brush up on his verbal miscues. If you knew how simple it was you would wonder the same thing. He doesn’t have to be a master orator, just try not to sound like a dolt.
I agree that Gute should lead pressers from now on but when has he been allowed to lead anything?
Mark Murphy is NOW the official replacement for Buffoon. Now we have a “Gap-Toothed Buffoon”, NOT a gravy-filled Buffoon. Which is worse? . . . Personally, I am beginning to believe that this “Gap-Toothed Buffoon” may be the root cause of all that ails the Green Bay Packer football team. Fuck this charlatan Packer President. It is time for the Board of Directors to hasten this gap-toothed buffoon’s exit . . . So many mistakes were left unfixed or unnoticed under this charlatans watch.
It all starts at the top.
Now what will you change your name to read? 2 of your targets are gone.
This is Murphy’s last chance. Just like it was McCarthy’s last chance going into this season.
All of these changes in the last year and the McCarthy firing was to bring one more Super Bowl victory with Rodgers at the helm. If Murphy names a coach who doesn’t win a Super Bowl with Rodgers, he’s gone.
Let us trust that he WILL be the “Ex” President / CEO of the Packers asap!
“Mark, isn’t the structure going to be important to your candidate? Candidates are going to want to be tied in with the GM since he’s the guy who going to make a lot of decisions.”
“Uumm well Tom you’d think that, but there are also a lot of candidates who would rather report to a president or an owner. And you’re focused on the structure. The most important thing is the people and the relationships.” “We have history, tradition, a HOF QB. It’s a very attractive job”
This guy is clueless.
“You seem frustrated that we’re talking about structure. Do you understand WHY we are asking about this? Ron Wolf TURNED DOWN this position (GM) the first time it was offered to him because he wasn’t given enough power of the football operations and he took the job the second time around. Ted Thompson had power over hiring his coach. They both won super bowls. Brian (Gute) is a well respected guy. Why is it important for you to hire the coach than have Brian hire the coach? Why are you more qualified?”
“I don’t want to brag about myself but all of my adult life I’ve been involved in football. Blah, blah, blah ,blah, blah…”
If you know so much about football then why the fuck have you been totally clueless about this team for the past several years? Why did it take you so long to get rid of a medically deteriorating TT? Who by the way is still on the payroll. Why did you say “Ted will tell me when he is done”? If that doesn’t scream broken I know someone who will scream it for you.
Damn right Cheese. I DVR’d it and watched it when i came home. Watching that was like someone scraping a chalkboard.
Why no one on the Executive Committee or B. O. D. is calling for Murphy’s removal is beyond me.
It’s funny, Murphy preaches leadership. Yet the times he could have stepped up years ago and been a leader, he failed miserably.
Then we get shit like…….during my GM search and talking to the guys, i discovered silos, these guys don’t talk to each other. – Mark Murphy
Gee Mark…You’ve only been there 9,10 years. If you just learned this, it would go to common sense, you haven’t talked with anyone either.
Cheese is 100% correct…CLUELESS.
If the Committee and/or the Board is also going to be clueless and silent. There needs to be an organized Fire Mark Murphy March outside the Packer offices. Seriously.
They need to drop the silos bullshit. Go back to traditional structure
Packers owner Mark Murphy is going to decide the next coach. He has some spare time between negotiating the Madonna concert at Lambeau in 2022 and testing flavors for the soon to be announced Packer Fudge Shop.
