I say that with all the love in the world, but my tenure here has come to an end. As of this week, I have transferred ownership of Total Packers to a new party.
So you won’t have me to kick around anymore!
What is the plan for the site? You should keep an eye on social media to find out because I have no idea.
I’ve spent 10 years doing this and it’s time for me to step away. There are simply other things I want to focus on. Total Packers was a daily commitment. Sometimes it was a burden. Some days, I just want to lay around and do nothing.
Still, I’m proud of what we built. Ten years ago, our group of Wisconsin-born, Los Angeles-residing Green Bay Packers fans were sending around email chains with Packers news and our commentary.
I don’t recall which of us said this to the other one, but either I or Steffen said to either Steffen or I, why don’t we just start a blog?
We had no idea what the hell we were doing. We just knew we could write, had a passion for the Packers and wanted to talk about them.
Through some trial and error, dumb luck and acerbic wit, we started to build an audience. We always tried to give something to Packers fans that no one else did. We never wanted to be Packers News or any of the myriad plain Jane Packers blogs out there.
We said what was on our minds in the way it was on our minds. We weren’t always complimentary to the Packers. We called a spade a spade. We made fun of all kinds of shit. We showed open disdain for scum-of-the-earth Vikings fans.
Personally, I really enjoyed the nicknames we would come up with. The Hormel Chili Dome, Fat Mike, Gravy Head, Gravy Fart, Child Warrior Andy Mulumba, Frank Zombo: half zombie, half Rambo, all hero; Big Ted, Uncle Ted, CUTTY!, QB1, Hondo!, Al “Solid” Harris, The Stinkings, Jake Bum, Gods Gifts, Buffoon… there are surely a bunch I am forgetting.
I also enjoyed mercilessly kicking the damn Vikings and their stupid fans.
So before I drift off into the ether, two things.
First and most importantly, I want to thank our longtime contributors — Steffen, Sarah, Shawn, Chitter, David, Joe, Rob, Mark and Jonah. Also, thanks to the readers and commenters (most of you). This is not what it is without you.
And here are some of my favorite Vikings posts. There’s really a treasure trove if you search the site for Vikings though. These are just from the past five years.
If you need me, I’m sure you can find me.
As always, GO PACK GO!
