Greg Jennings: Mike McCarthy’s Offense Is Shit

Mordecai Jones by Mordecai Jones

Okay, he didn’t say that exactly. He said it in a roundabout way. Former Green Bay Packers receiver Greg Jennings was asked about the Packers’ offense. He was not complimentary. And that’s Fat Mike’s offense. The one that everyone seems to be frustrated with.

Jennings can’t count — see where you can recognize that — but he says players were frustrated with the offense when he played with the team. That, surprise, it did nothing to get guys open.

Greg Jennings talked about Mike McCarthy's play-calling the other day and this is a real interesting listen. pic.twitter.com/3toNTatlE9

True comments are spot on. I watch other offenses use slant rubs, mini picks, etc. Our throws are mainly either deep outside, or down and out. For christ sake, cant MM see the rependetiness? My goodness, us causal fandom see it completely and our head coach doesn’t. No new playbook as promised with an offense that is easy to defend and predictable. If you fans are satisfied with MM then fine. I say enough is enough and send his far ass packing.

What’s with this creepy obsession over what Greg Jennings has to say recently? Is Greg Jennings waiting to get into the HoF or something? The man made his bed when he left for greener pastures and trash talked on his way out of town, and we all know how well that worked out for him. Is Greg apprenticing for a Cowerd/Bayless role these days, saying shit to get a reaction?

I could get on board with you, but in this instance, it sounds legit, because it sounds like McCarthy.

As far as Mordi saying Jennings couldn’t count, he counted out 5 receivers. which leads me to ask…are recreational drugs now legal in L.A.?

Just for shits and grins Mordi, count to 5 for me.

I haven’t been a huge Greg Jennings fan since he bolted for the Vikings and since every other week it seems like he’s spouting off about something…………however, he has a seriously legitimate point in what he’s talking about, and it’s not the first time this has been mentioned.

#1 – The Creativity – There is none. Zero. There hasn’t been for YEARS! This is not something new, it’s only something that the national media and average fan picks up on when the Packers go into ruts (like the one they are in now) and most of that comes from McCarthy getting out-coached so profoundly that even the casual observe can tell something is off. When Aaron Rodgers is on the field and playing at a supremely high level, most of this becomes swept under the rug because the guy can single handedly out-talent defenses and dominate the game, but when he can’t (and is off his game, like he is now) —- the offense becomes vastly exposed. Jennings is correct in everything he says and this was becoming an issue before he left after ’12. There’s no motion, no slants, no trickery, no stop/go routes, no screen game and there’s way too much of this “lets get everyone involved” thing and very little cutting edge left in the offense and it’s why you see the “peak & valley” effect with Rodgers and why other quarterbacks can’t even be competitive in the system — and that’s because it’s stale, ineffective and can only be run by one quarterback one earth. The dead give away is when Rodgers isn’t on the field — this team barely functions on any offensive level whatsoever and all but collapses.

#2 – The Lack of Aggressiveness – McCarthy severely lacks aggressiveness and plays so passively with a lead that it’s cost the Packers numerous games and trips to the Super Bowl. Go back and look at the numbers, when the Packers play with a lead McCarthy takes his foot off the gas and all but attempts to float across the finish line, there’s no cut-throat Steeler/Patriot-esque mentality, it’s more of a “let’s win 24-17 as opposed to 48-17 approach”. This hasn’t sat well with past and current players and continues to be a problem (i.e. Rams game 2 weeks ago).

#3 – The Run Game – Let’s be honest, the Packers have not, nor ever will be, a run-first team under Aaron Rodgers, nor should they. The Patriots, Steelers and Saints (three of the most effective, dynamic led offenses in the NFL in 2018) all fall outside the Top-15 in the NFL in total rushing. In fact the only teams in the Top-10 that sport an offense on par with the aforementioned are the LA Rams who happen to have Todd Gurley, the best RB in the game by a wide margin, and the LA Chargers, who have the second-best RB in football in Melvin Gordon. The one thing Pittsburgh, LA, Kansas City, New Orleans and New England all do better than McCarthy’s led Packer offense is THEY THROW TO THEIR BACKS! They create excellent offensive patterns to get their backs out into space and create outrageous mismatches on defense. Packers RB’s have 33 catches, TOTAL, in 8 games, for comparison — James White has 61 catches alone this season, Alvin Kamara 51, James Conner 38 and Gurley 37. It’s not just about running the football, it’s about INVOLVING the running backs in the passing game.

#4 The End is Near – With Rodgers on pace to all but shatter the most passes thrown away in a single season an important point was raised recently regarding why Rodgers is throwing so many passes away and about 90% is/and probably can be related to the fact that he’s not happy with the play call — which is probably 100% accurate. Rodgers is pissed off, bored and fed up with the lack of creativity and effectiveness in how this offense is functioning and it’s starting to show. Barring the outburst of 30+ points per/game over the next month it’s almost a guarantee that this is it for the McCarthy-Rodgers tandem in Green Bay, as it should be. It’s time to move on and bring in some fresh faces with fresh ideas.

Mike Lombardi wrote an article saying the same thing.

I don’t know who wrote it, but i absolutely think the premise that Rodgers throws the ball out of bounds because he didn’t like the play call is ludicrous, if not downright stupid.

That would mean that Rodgers sometimes has an open receiver but instead, throws the ball out of bounds in defiance of the play call.

      Brilliant.

Somebody might want to tell T Willy that if he wants to make a tackle on Frank Gore’s 39 yard run, that putting his helmet into the mid section of Clay Mathews probably won’t get it done.

As comical as that is to watch, i’m sticking with my prediction of Packers by 17

Somebody might want to tell T Willy that while returning a kick, it’s somewhat important to hold onto the ball.

Somebody might want to tell McCarthy that if you want to go for it on 4th and 2, you might want to find someone else to block Wake (sack). Hasn’t anyone told McNugget that Graham can’t block?

Someone might want to tell him a 7 step drop/slow developing play on 4th and 2 isn’t really the right call on the Burger King menu either.

Truth be told, he’s from Pittsburgh. His restaurant of choice is probably more like Primanti Brothers. McCarthy is trying to order off the wrong menu at the wrong restaurant. The only reasonable explanation as to why shit ain’t working out as planned.

The only time i’ve seen a Burger King or McDonalds menu is at the restaurant. I don’t think they have conventional menu’s like Dennys.

Am i the only person who gets this stuff? I must say, i’m in no way perfect! But it’s excruciatingly exhausting commenting at an elite level each and everyday of being factually correct 99.999% of the time, while also bringing a voice of reason to this forum, respectively.

            THE PACK IS BACK!!

Looks like the Pack will win today, but they are so undisciplined. Silly penalties. Plus too much showboating after a good play. A guy makes one good play and he shows no dignity or respect. It’d be better to make that great play and show some professionalism. Just act like t5hey’ve done it 100 times.

All this menu stuff and that commercial today. All I can picture is MM dancing with mrs Butterworth to The times of our life, and sharing some fried chicken and waffles. And everyone said MM couldn’t change up his menu. I feel ill.
