There has been plenty of speculation about the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders edge rusher Khalil Mack, who appears to be on the trading block.
Mack is holding out for a new contract and the Raiders are said to be open to trading him. Enter, the GBP?
“I think with any players that are available, we’re going to look at every avenue to help our football team,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said. “I think we’ve always been a draft and development team here for a long time, but if there are players that can help us, and right now, I think we will use every avenue to help our team.”
So then you’re going to call Oakland about Mack?
That has been the question on everyone’s mind. After all, talk is cheap.
There has been no indication Gutekunst has actually picked up the phone and done so. He says the Packers are all-in to win a championship this year. He also says that is the case every year (something we find absurd because Ted Thompson didn’t operate as if he were all-in).
“We’ve always operated that way,” Gutekunst said. “In this town, there’s only one thing that matters, and that’s winning championships. And I think every year is a new year and every year we’re kind of all in to see if we can do that. So I think that philosophy here has been here for a long time, and hasn’t changed.”
Championships are the only thing that matters. We’re not the Minnesota Vikings, who hang division title banners. We’re not the Detroit Lions, who hang banners for playoff appearances. We’re not the Chicago Bears, who still think it’s 1985.
Is anyone going to be ticked off if the Packers flip their two 2019 first-round picks for Khalil Frickin’ Mack?
I certainly wouldn’t be. The guy has 40.5 sacks in his four-year career.
Let’s get this guy and…
