Well, surprise, surprise. Despite everyone in the Green Bay Packers organization saying there will be a new contract for quarterback Aaron Rodgers “soon,” that does not appear to be the case.
According to PFT, there has been no meaningful progress on the supposed new deal we’ve been hearing about since February.
That’s not really the end of the world. Rodgers still has two years left on his current deal.
It appears the real holdup here is what Rodgers wants in his next contract. There has been talk of a series of player options. It doesn’t appear the Packers want to hand something like that over.
The real question now is does this become a distraction for the team and for Rodgers?
Doubtful on the latter. The issue will keep coming up until the deal finally gets done though. It certainly could be a distraction for the team.
