And this time for good! Quarterback Joe Callahan has now been released three times by the Green Bay Packers.
Once in early 2016, following training camp in 2017 and now again today. It now appears the much-traveled former Division III undrafted free agent is finally finished with the Packers.
In addition to Aaron Rodgers, the Packers still have Brett Hundley on the roster. They traded for DeShone Kizer and signed undrafted free agent Tim Boyle from Eastern Kentucky.
After having a great preseason and initially making the roster in 2016, Callahan had a poor preseason in 2017. He was cut and then added to the practice squad. When Rodgers broke his collarbone, Callahan was added to the active roster. Despite Hundley’s struggles, coach Mike McCarthy refused to give Callahan a shot at the field.
It appears general manager Brian Gutekunst feels about the same as McCarthy does about Callahan. That he has no business being on the football field for the Packers.
Should have gotten rid of Hundley instead. Callahan still had “potential” at least.
I want to know why someone like Hundley is still on the Packers roster. His play showed that he doesn’t belong on any roster in the NFL, let alone a roster that boasts the best quarterback to ever play the game. Release Hundley rather than Callahan. At least Callahan can play football sometimes.
Cut them both, they both stink.
