Well, look at this. Brian Gutekunst is not Ted Thompson, thank fucking god.
Gutes actually trotted himself out for a press conference on Tuesday evening, something Thompson always refused to do. I will honestly say, I am more blown away by that development than I am by the Green Bay Packers signing Jimmy Graham.
What did Gutes have to say? Well, the fact that he had anything to say at all is refreshing.
So, unlike Big Ted, you’ll actually be accountable?
It seems so!
Plenty of people apparently asked Gutes about the cornerback position, which has become a goddam albatross for the Packers. Or at least one person with a sack and some balls in them asked and everyone else marked it down.
So here’s essentially the take on the comments, all of which are pretty much the same.
Gutekunst on the CB situation: "I think we have some good young prospects, but that's obviously a position we're looking at heavily right now." #Packers

Gutekunst on approach to building the team: We're not trying to compete for one year, we're trying to compete every year.

And here’s the actual take.
The Packers lost out on the alpha, which was Trumaine Johnson, because, ultimately a shitty team with more cap space comes in and signs your guy. Pays him too much, the Packers couldn’t compete with that. That said, the Packers clear target out of the gate was Jimmy Graham. That, unfortunately cost them Jody Nelson, a move not unexpected with most of us. That is, if the Packers were going to sign legit free agents, with they did with Graham.
Cornerbacks they’re interested in, we’ll have to see.
I’d have more respect for the guy if he would have just admitted to screwing the pooch on the CB debacle. Cutting Cobb and Mathews would have given you enough to get Johnson. Now all the good ones are gone and we already know a rookie DB is not gonna make a dman bit of difference next season.
The pool was a shallow one this season. However, the draft is deep for CBs
Still available are: E.J. Gaines, Morris Claiborne, Patrick Robinson (slot), Rashaan Melvin, Rodgers-Cromartie, T.J. Carrie (slot) & Jonathan Joseph (age 33) to name a few…
Yea, it’s too bad they had to fire Jody Nelson. But listen, if your just hanging around for a paycheck…get out.
Can’t wait to see the #’s on Graham’s and Wilkersons deal.
It should be the 31 y.o. Graham getting a 1-year deal & the 28 y.o. Wilkerson getting the 3 year deal
BTW…PF4L, Wilkerson is getting a 1-Year 5 mill. deal with 3 mill. in incentives
Yea, i saw that Tyko, actually a bit lower than i thought it would be, in years and cash. We’ll see what happens with Graham, although i’m thinking an average of about 9 million. Hopefully i’m high on that guess.
I literally text my dad this am that i want the Pack to sign Graham to a 1-year deal & Wilkerson to a 3/4 year deal. I got the names right this am but not the years
Yeah I am surprised they were getting graham and wilkerson, those two should eat up a big chunk of their reserves. So I guess the biggest needs in the draft from my perspective are CB, WR, offensive linemen. At least as things are now, maybe they will still restructure Rodgers, Cobb, Matthews, and free up some more space.
Alright Gutey! Someone trying to win.
So will Rodgers be so pissed off at the Nelson release that he doesn’t sign an extension? Leaving open the option to leave Green Bay and get even more money with the team of his choice.
Mordi already answered that. With hours of careful analysis involving an abundance of analytics and metrics of human behavior, coupled with his firsthand knowledge. Mordi announced it was actually Aaron’s own fault.
