Mike McCarthy Got a Contract Extension

The Green Bay Packers gave coach Mike McCarthy an unannounced one-year contract extension during the 2017 season. McCarthy’s deal now runs through 2019.

This is significant in that it doesn’t put McCarthy in a lame-duck season in 2018. After firing defensive coordinator Dom Capers and at least two other assistants, McCarthy likely would have had trouble attracting top talent with only one year left on his deal.

The team will also need a new receivers coach. Luke Getsy left to become the offensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

When asked about McCarthy’s status on Tuesday, team president Mark Murphy first suggested McCarthy was safe as the team’s coach.

“Mike is our man. He is our coach. We have all the confidence in the world in Mike that we’re going to have great success moving forward.”

However, he then confirmed that the new general manager will have authority over the coach, just like former GM Ted Thompson did. So depending on who that general manager is, Mike might not be the Packers man.

A general manager vacancy might give potential coaching candidates pause as well. However, filling those vacancies appears to be proceeding as normal.

“Things move quickly on the coaching side,” Murphy said. “You don’t want to put yourself at a disadvantage.”

We suspect whoever the new general manager is will keep McCarthy around, at least for a year. When Thompson took over for Mike Sherman, he kept Sherman on as coach for a season.

Although the numbers are not reported, it is believed that McCarthy makes around $9 million per season.

Something is wrong about this extension bullshit. I’m a fucking dumbass and I said yesterday MM would have a hard time getting a quality defensive coordinator while being a lame duck head coach with a GM to be named later. These guys had to have discussed the Capers firing a week or more ago. Same with the TT shift. Did no one think that MM being a lame duck would effect hiring a new DC or position coachs?

Many things are not ringing true regarding the Bullshit Murphy is spewing.

MMTTDCSUCK if you do not change your handle to MM²SUCK soon I may have to change mine.

Usually this shit is announced. Why wait till now?

Well Howard, is nice to see not everyone has their head buried in the sand.

You have a publicly held team, and they sign the head coach to an extension…..And they “purposely keep it hush hush. I call bullshit on everyone involved. Here’s what it tells me…..

      You can’t trust these fuckers.

      Murphy is an asshole.

They knew about Ted taking this “new role” before McCarthy signed this extension. A one year extension?…..Give me a fucking break.

So why did they keep it secret? Because on it’s face, it’s odd. That in turn, would entail being asked questions about it.

Red fucking China…..Now were keeping contracts, secrets to the owners of this team.

I say fuck you Murphy, fuck you fat ass, fuck you Russ Ball.

So are the Packer reporters and writers that out of touch with this team they didn’t have a clue?

Not talking about injuries, telling white lies in front of the media, are one thing, but this is bullshit.

And it’s bullshit no reporter was smart enough, or had enough backbone for not calling out this “secret” to Murphy.

I have my own idea’s that i’ll get into shortly, but does anyone else have a thought who the new GM is going to be, from listening to Murphy? I think i have a good idea, or at least a good guess.

        Murphys presser…9:03 into video.

Murphy, after saying he makes the decisions, was asked if he made the decision to remove Ted from his position. Of course he got all jittery as most liars do, saying….”Ahhumm, i, i would say, ahhmm, and i don’t want to get into semantics, but it was ummm, a decision that we made, jointly.”

Sure buddy, anything you say .

Also, he stated nobody directed him to fire Ted. which may be true. But i think the truth may lie more in that it was strongly suggested. I’ll believe McGinn way before i believe this ginger.

Murphy had no experience in NFL management, but his first Job in the NFL is President of the Packers, go figure.

No shit, I saw that. For a moment I thought Murphy actually had a spine. Stupid me…

I think your guess is Ball? I guess Ball based on the 3 contract extensions with no GM on board. I also think Murphy said Gutekunst and Wolf were not involved in the player extensions. I don’t believe for a minute TT was involved in the final portion of those contracts, if at all. In fact I really hope TT is O.K health wise. Something tells me TT will be performing his advisor’s duty outside Wisconsin in the near future. Another of many half truths from Murphy in approximately a half hour span.

        1. PF4L January 3, 2018

Take it for what you think it’s worth, but Murphy said TT would be working in house. He needs somewhere to go in the morning. He actually needs to find a woman, and some hobbys. I think people there feel sorry for him.

          1. PF4L January 3, 2018

One more thought….Murphy referenced that TT is a lightning rod among fans angst. I think Mr. Murphy is very shortly going to realize he is the new lightning rod after that display.

LOL! Yes Howard this whole fiasco screams for attention. These guys, especially Murphy are clueless. This is going to continue to be a shit show until both MM’s are gone. Love the name btw, if you do not grab it, I most likely will . . .

I’m obviously not a Dom supporter, but it’s not the defenses fault the offense got shut out twice at home this season. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

    1. KzooPackFan January 2, 2018

This ^^^^. And who is responsible for the offense?

      1. Cheese January 2, 2018

It’s supposed to be the offensive coordinator, but McMuffin won’t let that slide.

    Allow me to quote Meatloaf,
“Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad”.

Cheese is right, defense is not the only problem.
Offense sucks unless #12 is on the field.
Special teams, especially the punt & kickoff return teams are not so special.
Remember the meltdown in the 2nd quarter at Detroit? That shit show started with a dumbass kick return and a drive that started inside the 10.
