The Green Bay Packers have activated a guy we liked during the preseason as a pass rusher. Linebacker Reggie Gilbert is up off the practice squad.
Cornerback Demetri Goodson has mercifully been shut down. Goodson was placed on IR on Friday.
Goodson returned from the physically unable to perform list after suffering a hideous knee injury last December. Goodson tore his ACL and started the season on the physically unable to perform list. However, he hadn’t been able to play since coming back because of a hamstring injury.
So let’s get someone who can!
Gilbert showed a knack, if for nothing else, being able to rush the passer during the preseason. The Packers have had little luck in that department all season.
And now, with Nick Perry probably sitting out, what better time to give Gilbert some playing time?
Will the Packers actually do that? We have no idea.
But what have they got to lose?
What does 2.3 million buy you? If we use Demetri Goodson as an example, it buys you a 4 year player who was skilled enough to make 11 solo tackles, and 2 passes defended in his career. That’s quite a bargain for Ted.
For some other General Manager, it’s probably a roster spot better used on a more productive player. But then again…the book isn’t yet closed on this sleeper. Ted might come out looking like a mad genius outsmarting the rest of the GM’s in the league with Demetri.
But ya, Capers is the problem.
I’ve been through so many emotions with this team, i’ve been all done with the various stages of grief through the years since 2011.
All i have left at this point for a coping mechanism, is laughing at this team as each circus act shows up and performs for my amusement.
When this team decides it wants to get serious, so will i. Until then, bring on the clowns and the popcorn.
A better analysis would be how many times did he get smoked in coverage for that money? Or missed tackles?
That would entail him being on the football field. I think most of his action has come on special teams.
Dilly dilly!
PUP list to the 53, still injured, to IR before playing a single down.
TT is solely responsible for this type of insanity and he must go.
OMG!!!! A move that makes some sense!!!!!
Did Ted die and nobody told anyone?
Newsflash Goodson is not an NFL caliber player.
Out of several questionable decisions this team has made over the last several years, this one is really a head scratcher. Aside from being a draft pick, what has this guy ever shown on the field to warrant this kind of loyalty? He got pictures of McNugget and Thompson in compromising positions or something? McNugget preaches about availability being a factor in playing time, yet there were undrafted guys who were playing and showing more than Goodson ever has.
I would love to hear the excuses these young guys have to listen to when the Turk comes calling and says they are cut. (With added plagiarism from another recent article here.) “We have to be honest about the patterns of negativity and positivity. To win championships, you have to go through adverse moments. We’ve had plenty this year. Not hitting our goal, not playing to the standard of the Green Bay Packers is definitely an adverse situation we need to learn from. Listening is probably the most important part of communication. Watching is another very important nonverbal information that you can gather. Well, you know, the potential upside and Goodson being a draft pick, it’s just not in the cards for you right now. But continue to make yourself available, maybe stick around the area because we’ll damn sure be calling you at some point. We are thinking revolving practice squad, sound good to you?”
