He’s here, he’s gone, he’s here again, he’s gone again. The San Francisco 49ers plucked receiver Max McCaffrey off the Green Bay Packers practice squad on Tuesday.
McCaffrey was in camp with the Packers this year. Despite a strong showing, he was released on final cuts. McCaffrey was then signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed him from New Orleans’ practice squad prior to week 2 and released him a prior to midseason. That’s when the Packers brought him back to their practice squad.
The life of an NFL nomad.
McCaffrey caught eight balls for 85 yards during the preseason for the Packers. He had one catch for four yards in five games with the Jaguars.
The 49ers’ leader in receptions this year is running back Carlos Hyde, with 53. Marquise Goodwin leads the team in yardage with 783. Maybe McCaffrey will actually get a shot this time around.
