Davante Adams is going to get paid.
Are the Green Bay Packers going to be the team that pays him? On the surface, it would seem that Adams is the team’s top priority for a new contract before he becomes a free agent after the season. It’s not quite that simple, however. The Packers already have two other highly-paid receivers on the roster.
Regardless, Aaron Rodgers thinks Adams should get his from the Packers.
“He’s making a lot of money this year,” Rodgers said. “Hopefully we pay him sooner rather than later. He’s a talented guy who’s just proven it week after week. He’s tough to guard.”
Rodgers is right. Adams is making a lot of money for himself this year. He’s the only receiver who maintained his production when Brett Hundley was at quarterback.
Adams has 69 catches for 828 yards and nine touchdowns this season. He’s 19th in the league in yardage, 14th in receptions and tied for second in touchdowns.
While only the touchdown numbers scream one of the best receivers in the league, you have to account for the Hundley factor. Adams’ numbers would surely be better if Rodgers had played quarterback all season.
One way or another, Adams is going to get rich. The interesting part will be what the Packers do with Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb after the season.
