It’s that magical time of week when we go over the Green Bay Packers’ always-lengthy injury report. This week, two doubtful and six questionable.
The doubtfuls are running back Ty Montgomery, who will likely miss his second straight game with with a rib injury. With lead back Aaron Jones out another week with a torn MCL, that would again leave the backfield work to Jamaal Williams and, presumably, Devante Mays.
Comically, Mays, who fumbled twice (one lost) in his offensive debut against Baltimore is also questionable. So if Mays is out, that would leave things to Williams and probably some combination of Randall Cobb, Aaron Ripkowski and possibly Trevor Davis.
The other doubtful is defensive lineman Kenny Clark, who has a high ankle sprain. We don’t expect to see Clark for at least a couple weeks.
The questionable group, in addition to Mays, is made up of outside linebacker Clay Matthews (groin), cornerback Kevin King (shoulder), safety Morgan Burnett (groin), guard Lucas Patrick (hand) and center Corey Linsley (back).
The good news from that unit is Burnett and King were full participants in Thursday’s practice. We will assume they are good to go.
Matthews hasn’t practiced all week and will be a game-time decision. If I were a betting man, and I am, I’d bet that means he isn’t playing.
Coach Mike McCarthy has suggested that Linsley will be on the field. If, for some reason, things change, the Packers would start Justin McCray at center. He would be the starter at right tackle otherwise and you know what that means.
If McCray is playing center, then Jason Spriggs starts at right tackle and that won’t be good for anyone other than the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If you want some good news from the other side, it’s this. The Steelers will be without receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who has 568 yards and five touchdowns so far this season.
