Martellus Bennett will not be getting the happy ending he was looking for. That’s fitting as far as we are concerned.
After quitting on the Green Bay Packers after Aaron Rodgers went down, Bennett was waived with a phantom shoulder injury. He was claimed by the New England Patriots. He has played in two games for the team despite his “shoulder injury.”
He had six catches for 53 yards.
And that’s all he’ll be having. The Patriots placed Bennett on injured reserve on Monday. The reasons cited were hamstring and shoulder injuries.
Amazing that he was able to play in two games though, huh?
Bennett claimed he was retiring after the season while he was still with the Packers. So it’s possible this is the end of the line. However, if Bennett did return for 2018, the Patriots would have his rights. They also have the contract the Packers gave him. That will be worth $6.45 million next year.
At this point, Bennett won’t be raking in that sort of money from any team. He simply isn’t worth it.
