I’m not so sure why I get such pleasure out of beating the Dallas Cowboys. Probably all those games in the 90s, when they owned the Green Bay Packers. When they had a perfectly mediocre quarterback in Troy Aikman and the Packers had Brett Frickin’ Favre.
I don’t hate Aikman as a broadcaster. I think he’s insightful. However, look at his stats as a player. This guy is in the Hall and had no business whatsoever being there. My criteria — were you ever considered amongst the greatest at your position for a period of time?
Would anyone in the 90s have taken Troy Aikman?
No.
Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, Dan Marino, Brett Favre… just throwing out the first random names that come to mind. Troy Aikman isn’t in there.
But this isn’t about that.
This is somewhat of a reflection on the fact that the Green Bay Packers own the Dallas Cowboys.
America’s Team? We know where they play ball, don’t we?
Hahahahaha!
Hats Off to Davante
I’ve killed this guy before. All of us here have. We used to call him Dropvante. We do not call him that anymore. Davante Adams comes back one week — or a little over a week — from a concussion. After taking one of the most brutal hits I have personally seen. And he wasn’t just on the field. Led the Packers in receiving — seven for 66 and two touches, including the game winner. I mean, what can I say? You’ve earned the respect because you fucking deserve it.
Give Him the Ball
I’m sure I said this on Sunday, but I can’t remember because I’m still hungover from the celebration. Kept yelling for the Packers’ defense to let the Cowboys score on their go-ahead final drive. I knew Mike McCarthy would never concede that score because he is the Buffoon. I also knew the Packers secondary sucks. The point is, as a betting man, I was taking Aaron Rodgers with 2:00… or whatever, for the win. And it had to be a touchdown because Kicky McKickerson couldn’t make an extra point. However, the thing about that game-winning drive is Rodgers hasn’t done it before as often as you’d expect. I think this is a different Aaron Rodgers. Everything he did on that drive was money. You could see it in his eyes. I think he asked the same question I asked.
“You’re leaving me with 1:13, huh? You are totally fucked.”
I knew it, he knew it, Cowboys fans were hoping it didn’t happen, but they knew it too. I have changed my opinion on one thing. I used to add up specific variables to rate QBs — titles, honors, skills; in that order.
I am rearranging the list for the Packers now.
- Starr
- Rodgers
- Favre
We all know Rodgers is great, but I don’t know. I and a lot of other people wouldn’t say he’s the greatest ever. I could be wrong, but I think he’s heard the chatter and has the drive to achieve that. As we saw on Sunday, he certainly has the skill. There’s something different about him this year. If he can sustain it, he and the Packers can achieve that greatness. Let’s be honest, No. 12 carries the franchise. He knows it and he has done it in Dallas.
Props to the Young Boy
I don’t normally comment on the opposition during this, but I’m going to this time. I hate the Cowboys, as has been well documented. However, Dak Prescott, man. That kid can ball and he can ball with the best of them. No fear in that kid and he can do it all on the field. Doesn’t throw the same pretty ball, but not that much different than Aaron Rodgers in his game. Packers only sacked him once on Sunday. I hated him during the game, but much respect as soon as it ended.
Big Blake
There was really only one Packers’ defender whose name I kept yelling over and over. It was linebacker Blake Martinez. If there was a play happening, he seemed to be in the middle of it. And several times, he was making big stops. I don’t think anyone is terribly impressed with the Packers’ defense — what’s new? — but Martinez is starting to look like a badass. What’s this? The first playmaking inside backer for the Packers since A.J. Hawk? HAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA! No. Desmond Bishop is the answer to that question.
Special Teams Actually Live Up to Their Name
The Packers’ special teams have rarely been special under Mike McCarthy, but it appears Ron Zook is rounding them into shape. One of the biggest plays of the game was undeniably a special teams play. Packers are down 24-22. They punt from their own 28. Rookie Justin Vogel nails one that makes the returner run full-speed backwards to catch it. Fifty-nine goddam yards. Nice kick, rook! And who is somehow right there on top of the returner to kill him on the spot? As Shawn would say, The People’s Champ, Jeff Janis. Those two guys allowed the outcome to be what it was.
