The more I watch this, the cheaper I think it was. That is, the hit from the Minnesota Vikings Anthony Barr that likely ended Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’ season.
But hey, Barr plays for the Vikings, so what else would you expect him to be if not a cheap piece of shit?
Maybe a felon, but that’s about it.
What I did not see during the game is this: Rodgers apparently having some choice words for Barr. I was there, so I didn’t get the Fox replays. Unfortunately, because Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were droning on and the camera angle was crap, we really have no idea what Rodgers said.
Well done, Fox.
Joe Buck huh? Whatever you say tiger.
So…we as NFL fans are a pretty fickle bunch concerning hard hits and tackles. If it isn’t one of our guys, we can’t get enough of someone getting hammered in a NFL game. It’s just the way were wired. When it’s one of our guys, especially a HOF’er, then it’s complete bs and uncalled for.
As everyone here know’s, i maybe the biggest Rodgers fan in here. Yes it sucks he’s out for the season, and i suppose i should be yelling and screaming profanities towards Barr. But i look at things in a different lens than a lot of fans. I look at hit’s and penalty’s for what my eye’s see, regardless if it’s my team or not.
Here is why i really don’t blame Anthony Barr. 1) It was a legal hit. 2) The Packers keep letting linebackers come in untouched, as was the case here, is that Barr’s fault? These guys are NFL players looking to lay the wood on someone. 3) The most simple of fans like myself could see that Barr was the spy on that play, if the Packers want to make sure he doesn’t get a free shot at Rodgers, then fucking put someone on him.
To many times have i watched a corner or safety come in and the Packers had no clue, or, the O-lineman shifts out of his gap to block someone who’s already being blocked, or worse yet, just stands there looking for someone to block, and the defensive player comes in behind him untouched.
So whose responsible for Rodgers getting hurt? Sure we can blame Barr, he got the hit. One could argue Barr didn’t have to drive him into the ground with his weight on top of Rodgers, i get it. But what are you going to flag Barr for, hitting too hard? Yes….i suppose he could have gently laid him down or something, but really?
I put more blame on TT and DC. You want to go cheap and not pay skilled players on the line? You want to deplete depth because of it? You don’t want to scheme to make sure nobody gets a free shot on Rodgers? Yea…………………..lets blame Anthony Barr, for doing his job.
Maybe someday TT and DC will do their job.
Rodgers was on pace for 60+ sacks this season. A handful of fans called this, including myself….it was just a matter of time. You LET your prized possession get hit a lot. Guess fucking what, this is the NFL, he might get hurt.
MM….my bad. Had Capers on my mind for some reason.
I saw a video, maybe ESPN as Rodgers was going into the tunnel. They fogged out his mouth, it looked like “fuck you” or “fuck off” he said.
“Football is NOT a contact sport, it is a collision sport”. I think somebody famous said that. With the quantity of collisions that QB1 was exposed to, I agree that something more than a few bumps and bruises was inevitable. We are going to get another opportunity to see exactly how great Rodgrs is based on how bad what remains is. Let’s see if what remains has even a minimal grasp on a few fundamantals: blocking, tackling, running routes, covering receivers, pad level. My guess is probably not because the only player who mastered his primary fundamentals is out for most, if not all, of the remining season.
Allow me to qoute Jim Mora, “Ah — playoffs? Don’t talk about — playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game! Another game.”
I sure don’t want to see tackle football become flag football. Injuries occur. I still say Barr’s hit on Rodgers was illegal. Not that it matters now. The damage is done. Just as Barr intended.
I know some of the announcers made the case Rodgers was out of the pocket and lost all protection. I know this year the league said you could hit a QB low when he leaves the pocket. They stopped short of indicating other protections for a passer were void. There is no question Rodgers was a passer. I believe all passer safety rules apply to a QB outside the pocket except low hits. So shouldn’t the rule as follows apply?
“When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms.”
So……you’re expecting Barr to be fined or suspended?
80% on fine. 10% on suspension. I feel strongly that Barr could have and should have avoided driving Rodgers into the turf. The NFL clearly states it is the defenders responsibility to avoid hits on defenseless players such as a passer. I don’t think Barr could have or should have avoid hitting Rodgers. Barr could have and should have avoided driving him into the turf with all his weight.
I also believe Barr intended to injure Rodgers. When watching the play Barr’s head was on the back side of Rodgers shoulder at the onset of the tackle. Before Barr took Rodgers down he moved his head back directly centered on Rodgers and used his center force to drive Rodgers into the turf. The natural motion would have been for Barr with his head on the back side to take Rodgers down without his weight coming down on Rodgers. Not sure the NFL could prove intent in order to suspend.
Well, respectfully Howard, i doubt they fine him, i’ll even put a wager on it. Any idea’s?
I don’t want to brag, but i’m undefeated :)
I have nothing more to give. :-). Plus I only trust the NFL to be consistent in calls at about 10%. Please look at the attached video from the NFL. Start at about the 2:15 mark to about 3:15. Even though Newton is running to the opposite side of the field and the Cardinal player is chasing it is very similar to the Barr hit on Rodgers in timing and bringing a QB hard to the ground after the throw was well away. The play resulted in a penalty.
I would respectfully point out that someone missed the Philly illegal hit on Randall in the preseason and someone called it correct.

Treggs hit him in the shoulder imo. the NFL deems that part of the head i guess. The Packers should have fined fined Randall for not paying attention to his surroundings, or just being an overall all-around shitty player.
OOPS….Any hit on Newton should be applauded, and rewarded.
We can fix all this by making the QB wear a red jersey, and putting flags on them. Lets stop this madness of tackling someone in football before someone gets hurt.
I can guarantee you that Zimmer coaches his defensive lineman/outside linebackers, if a quarterback is coming down awkwardly, you need to put all your weight on him and hurt him. BECAUSE IT’S COMPLETELY LEGAL.
I think most dudes in the nfl have a respect for one another. Guys have family’s and careers and if your out there trying to deliberately hurt other guys, then it can be agreed upon that your a puddle of shit…..thats WAS a legal “hit”….but barr saw rodgers throw, then CHOSE to continue his tackle, then CHOSE to put some umf! In that tackle and end his season. That play happens 1000 times every sunday. All you see happen is a hard shove, or the defener hits, but is trying to stop the qb from falling like “my bad, my momentum, u understand”
That was a deliberate “i want u out of the game pussy so we can win” hit…..
Barr is a pos and will get his just watch.
Silver lining we could get a decent top 10 draft prospect for a change.
Point is, it was obvious QB1s words to Barr as he was leaving the field were not compliments….
If QB1 says it was unfair hit them it was unfair hit…
….. ’nuff said.
