The Green Bay Packers released defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois last week. They re-signed him this week.
It’s a pretty interesting move. Francois was one of the Packers’ offseason free agent signings. Then he was dropped after playing just six snaps in week 1 so the Packers could add practice squad offensive lineman Adam Pankey.
The Pankey move reflected the beat up nature of the Packers’ offensive line. Three players — Bryan Bulaga, David Bakhtiari and Jason Spriggs missed the week 2 game.
So can we assume the Francois move is a similar one?
Defensive lineman Mike Daniels left the Atlanta game during the first series. He didn’t practice on Wednesday.
The answer appears to be no.
It has been reported that Daniels’ injury isn’t a serious one. The Packers say they have no plans to put him on injured reserve.
What’s also interesting is third-round pick Montravius Adams was a full participant in practice on Wednesday for the first time this season. So the Packers will have more depth on the defensive line than they’ve had in a long time.
That is, unless the roster move corresponding with signing Francois is on the defensive line. We won’t know who the victim of Francois’ return is until Thursday.
