Well, look at Big Ted still trying to tweak that defense! A couple days after officially signing former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks, the Green Bay Packers added one of his former teammates. They signed defensive lineman Quinton Dial on Tuesday.
Former #49ers DL Quinton Dial has signed with the #Packers, source said. So, two free agent defenders in the last week.

Like Brooks before him, Dial was also released by the 49ers. However, it seems entirely scheme-related with Dial. The 49ers are transitioning to a 4-3 defense this year. Dial is a 3-4 guy, which not coincidentally is what the Packers play.
Dial is only 27 and at 6-5, 318 adds an imposing figure to the Packers’ defense. He started 26 games for the 49ers over the past two seasons. Dial had 36 tackles (and no sacks) while starting 11 games in 2016. He piled up 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks while starting 15 in 2015.
It’s a nice addition for the Packers, but as you know, when someone comes, someone else has to go. That guy is defensive end Christian Ringo.
Ringo had himself a nice preseason for the Packers and seemed to earn a roster spot. The Packers can re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Tough to part with Justin McCray, we know. He definitely needs to be on the roster…
