Godspeed, James Jones, You Sweet Prince

Receiver James Jones was always one of my favorite players. Not necessarily for what he did on the field. He certainly had his moments, but Jones was never dominant.

It was more for what came out of his mouth. To say that James Jones kept things loose would probably be an understatement.

I remember when he was talking about his impending free agency after he almost single-handedly was the Green Bay Packers receiving corps in 2015.

“I’ve hit free agency twice and gotten the back end of the stick twice. Hopefully this time I get at least the middle.”

Man, I was pulling for him to get the middle. He did not.

James Jones would say what was on his mind. He would call out teammates if he needed to. This came in early 2016, when no one gave the Packers a shot at anything.

“We’ve got to get back to work,” Jones said. “We have everything we need in the locker room. We just need people to believe in each other and once we get it rolling, it’s going to be hard to stop us.”

James Jones gave no fucks about anything other than playing the game.

This is a dude that wore a mock turtleneck every week, regardless of whether it was hot as hell out.

Long live the mock!

James Jones

That is, until he figured out he could wear a goddam hoodie under his jersey instead.

Long live the hoodie!

James Jones

The NFL actually enacted a rule the season following Jones’ hoodie display that you couldn’t wear a hoodie. We know it as the James Jones rule.

So what did James Jones do? Went back to wearing the mock!

James Jones in San Diego

Jones went to camp with the Chargers in 2016. He’s in San Diego. It’s summer. The chick next to him is sweating her ass off. Must be 90 degrees. What is James Jones rocking?

The mock, of course.

James Jones is a national treasure. He is a Wisconsin treasure. He is a Green Bay Packers treasure.

And that isn’t to say he hasn’t contributed on the field. He led the league with 14 touchdowns in 2012. He had his best season, coming back to the Packers in 2015, with 890 yards, while averaging 17.8 per reception. He did that at age 31.

James Jones has officially retired today.

It isn’t over, however. We’re still going to be able to see JJ.

He’s taking a position with NFL Network.

And so, we say godspeed. You will always be the man as far as we are concerned, James Jones.

To this day, James Jones is one of my all time favorite Packer Players. I dug his attitude, his athletic talent, his perseverance, his spunk and his style. Class act off the field as well as on the field. The Packers and all of the fans are much richer for having him play in Green Bay. May his next adventures be just as fun, exciting and fulfilling as his time in football has been!

Man, this is not a good subject for me, sorry in advance for the rant.

This dude never really got the big contract. If memory serves he led the league in touchdowns in 12 i think. Then Ted needed him in 2015 in the worst way, what did Ted do? Paid him the minimum. So what did Jones do? Was the teams #1 receiver. But Perry play’s part time for 4 years, then gets 11 sacks, and lands a 60 million dollar contract. That’s what happens when the GM is hard up because he can’t draft talent anymore, he over pays. Maybe he couldn’t afford to pay Jones 3 or 4 million, after gifting Cobb 10 mill a year for his versatility running the ball and returning punts and kicks. Only one thing wrong with that, when you take a closer look, he wasn’t that good at it. He basically hasn’t returned a kickoff since 2012. But i digress, Cobb insisted he get paid like a #1 and Ted folded, so here we are.

Maybe Jones just had a shitty agent, idk. But what i do know, is the Packers (Ted) robbed him blind for the production he gave them in 2015. Could you imagine that 2015 offense without Jones? Obviously he could still play, Should have shown some class and offer him a 1 year deal for 2016, they kept like 8 receivers.

Just another reason why i dislike Ted. Yea Ted, you take care of your own….whatever. Just yet another case of not paying enough money to the players that actually earned it like Nelson, Jones, Sitton, Lang, etc. Then overpaying others, no offence Perry, Mathews, Cobb, Williams, Daniels. I was shocked he didn’t give Barclay 3 years 11 mill…..for his versatility of sucking at every position along the line.

Ted offered BJ Raji 8 million (yes, seriously), dumbshit Raji turns it down to test free agency, no one is interested, then Ted negotiates against himself and gives him 4 million. This, during the time Raji wasn’t doing shit, because as we learned later, he “checked out”, even when put back at nose tackle…..non productive.

But yea, pay Jones 870,000 for leading the team in receptions.

    The Packers owe him money.

Rodgers should grab every dollar he can when it’s his time. I know, i know, Rodgers should take less money, so Ted has even more money to mismanage this team. Great idea.

      Totally agree

He made $14M with the Packers and Raiders.

I suspect the Jones family will scratch by.

And BJ Raji made over 26 million in 7 seasons.

What’s Cobb done since signing his gift of a contract? Besides collecting over 20 million the last 2 seasons. Well, lets see… 2 years, 10 td’s 1,400 yards total.

Nick Perry gets a 60 mill contract for what? A season of 11 sacks and 4 seasons of injuries…WOW.

Jones made 17.5M for 9 seasons, that isn’t shit in the NFL.

Favre could scratch by on the 130 million he made in the NFL, but still hawks products, same with Mathews, Manning, Rodgers, etc. Trying to bring up the point Jones will scrape by is ignorant.

James Jones was a CLASS act. Always loved that dude. Made some great catches over the years. never forget the Atlanta play-off game in SB year. Should go in Packer HOF no question.
