The Green Bay Packers brought former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks in for a visit this week. Needing outside linebacker depth, the former Pro Bowler would have been an obvious and welcome addition.
However, Brooks has left Green Bay without a deal. The Packers reportedly offered one, but Brooks clearly hasn’t signed it.
From Demovsky: Packers hope to sign Ahmad Brooks but he’s no longer in town, I’m told. Unclear if he has other visits or is just pondering an offer at this point.
That’s not a good sign. It has been reported that Brooks was also drawing interest from the Denver Broncos. We would expect him to be able to get other offers he wants them.
If we were speculating, we’d have to think Brooks didn’t like what the Packers offered. If he did, why wouldn’t he have signed it?
Typically, when a free agent leaves town after getting an offer, he doesn’t come back.
We’d be surprised if it went differently in this case.
He may be interested in gauging what his market value is. Let’s see how badly (or not badly) Denver wants him. If Denver throws crazy money at him, he’s gone. If they also draw a line, there are other things to consider. In Denver he will be backing up Von Miller and Shane Ray. Here he would virtually start, since it’s a given that Matthews and/or Perry will be injured at a given time.
Had a feeling this would play out this way. Ted likely low balled him and brooks said fuck this shit. We have the cap room and there’s an obvious need for him. What’s so bad about bringing in a hungry vet to help the d. Matthews can’t stay on the field and isn’t motivated enough anymore. Bring in brooks and Hayden and they’ll bring leadership and want to win a ring. That’s not how Thompson sees it though. He sees his precious draft picks like kyler and guys like Elliot as the answer. No one else is needed and if they are wanting to play for the packers, it’d be a privelage for them and would have to be on the cheap.
Him leaving town likely means he isn’t gonna sign. You’d think this late in the preseason, he’s gonna wanna get signed asap and get reps in with his new team. He may want more money but if it’s Denver, they may not offer much since they have starters and I would think the pack have a better chance at a ring this season than Denver. He may have to pick if he wants to chase a ring or get a little more $. Really hoping teds offer was decent. Pretty much no shot At Hayden but woulda been interesting to get a player like that at another position of need.
Heck, he has just been signed, per Ian Rapaport. For up to 5M.
Just saw that. Glad it got done.
By GB and not Denver? lol. Oh look, another one year prove it deal.
Good that they signed Brooks. This will help their abysmal depth. Rumor has it that there will be another signing as well today . . .
Will it be a shooting guard or point guard as an astute reader mentioned a couple weeks ago?
lmao
you guys should all refrain from posting any comments until kato lets us all know her opinion. she is a gifted writer and always has incredible insight.
Funny, because you never post anything of substance.
I do remember posting something of substance last season (look it up), and even though it was purely speculation on my part, and I framed it as speculation in my original post, I was attacked mercilessly by many of the regulars in here. (to be fair, I don’t remember if you were one of them) With that in mind, why don’t you go ahead and pull up your big girl panties and deal with the fact that some people don’t appreciate your opinions and at least one person doesn’t like you. You are a loudmouthed, virtue signaling, know-it-all… deal with it
