This whole cornerback thing isn’t playing out like any of us expected. That’s in part because the Green Bay Packers’ supposed No. 1 corner, Davon House, has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.
About the only thing that’s gone according to plan is this. We knew rookie Kevin King would get a shot and he’s gotten one. King will probably end up as a starter on the outside.
Damarious Randall was supposed to be the man in the slot. He was praised effusively all offseason. We haven’t heard much about him in camp. Now he’s out with a concussion after one preseason series.
Quinten Rollins was supposedly outplaying everyone, but we all saw him in the preseason opener. Same heap of garbage as last year. Rollins started that game with King and Randall.
Now, we’ve got second-year undrafted free agent Josh Hawkins getting a shot with the No. 1 defense.
And what about last year’s No. 1 corner, LaDarius Gunter? He was getting torched so badly early in camp, he rapidly fell down the depth chart. Now, the Packers have actually moved him from the outside to the slot.
All of this tells us several things.
- No one is separating themselves.
- The Packers don’t seem to know where some players’ best position is.
- The slot job is wide open.
- Injuries will probably go a long way in determining who lines up where from week to week.
Like I said.
A convoluted mess.
In some dime packages I would not be at all suprised to see all 5 safeties that will make the team if they remain healthy, Daniels, 3 OLBs and only 2 corners on the field. So yes, right now the cornerback situation is a mess.
Right now I’m not so sure there are more than 4 or 5 OLBs that should make the team. There may only be 4 or 5 corners that deserve a spot. Last year the team kept 18 total at safety, corner, and OLB. 666. This year it is hard to see with the current group more than 14 or 15 sticking unless a couple of additional players start showing up.
That’s why! We sucked last year because our CB, OLB, S combination dialed the number of the beast.
Yes, and that beast should have been cast into the lake of fire, along with TT who deceived us, and the false coordinator, Capers.
The 2017 defense will be lucky to be as good as 2016…
What a HOT MESS! Maybe Gap Tooth aka Howdy Doody will wake up Uncle Ted. Like he’d do anything!
The clown show continues. I hear Darrell Revis’s corpse is still available. Can’t see how that can be much worse.
Looks like i have to be the voice of reason…..again.
Here i was….the off-season, brimming with optimism and positivity about this team. Then one and a half weeks into pre-season i come in here and nobody is happy.
I don’t appreciate everyone’s negativity. Three, four weeks ago you were all optimistic looking at the bright side, wtf happened?
You guys go ahead….be pissed off and angry. I’m not going to succumb to that negative disease and angst you so-called packer fans portray.
This is nothing personal, i respect and think the world of most of you, even with your personality disorders and drinking problems. I don’t judge.
This is not a clown show people, you aren’t at the circus. This is Green Bay Packer football. Try to have some faith in this organization.
I don’t know why i always have to come in here and……………………………….
Stick YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND. VERYTHINGS WONDERFUL!
STOP YELLING AT ME!!
And…..
5. Vikings will both head-to-head games and retake the division crown. Will we hang a banner? Hells YES!!!
…and…
6. Packers will drop to 3rd place in division behind the Vikings and the Lions.
Gonna be a great year!
correction/addition=
Should read Vikings will WIN both head-to-head games. My excitement made me skip a word.
Bradford, Diggs, Thielen, and Rudolph are gonna eat up your defensive backs and the yardage!
Just like a bear fan walking around with a off season chubby. Telling Packer fans what they are going to do, what they are going to win, before….they actually win anything.
At least the bears won a SB some 30 years ago or so….lol. Maybe the vikings will win it big this year, especially if they can start 5-0 just like last years dream season….oooooooh snap.
Who knows, because the Super Bowl is in Minnesota, maybe the NFL will set aside tickets for the players to buy. Then at least they can say they went to a Super Bowl.
I got this following gem, from an article containing the podcast. Somehow i missed the article, but here it is.
“There are some surprising developments and the biggest one is Quinten Rollins. Who the hell thought he would come on and change the face of the Packers’ lineup?”
That’s an example of why i never listen to the podcast.
Now would be a good time to point out that TJ Watt got 2 sacks in one quarter of play in the preseason.
