There have been rumors that the Green Bay Packers expect their top draft pick, cornerback Kevin King, to start this year. However, King spent the offseason behind Davon House and LaDarius Gunter.
On Friday, King stepped in in place of Gunter with the No. 1 defense.
Gunter has had some struggles in camp thus far and the Packers apparently don’t want to wait around for him to work through them. Nor should they, since there are plenty of cornerbacks on the roster they need to take a look at.
Should we consider this a permanent move? We wouldn’t jump to that conclusion. It’s rare that Mike McCarthy goes with any rookie as a starter right out of the gate. Not to mention the Packers are all of two practices into camp and they haven’t even worked in pads yet.
The first padded practice is on Saturday morning.
There’s still plenty of time for all kinds of things to happen.
this is the kind of news that’s got me squealing like a pig for more. Football is so close I can fucking taste it. Can’t wait to see what the King can do.
We will see how King progresses. I do like the size, length, and speed King and House can provide on the outside. May not be so easy to complete 20 to 30 yard passes over the corners to the sideline when the D plays zone.
The teams top draft pick getting in some non-contact action with the first team without pads.
It’s a crazy world.
